Its a tough watch

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0092455/episodes?season=1

If you're on a first run I just use IMDB, just stick to 7.0 and above and you won't miss much.

Skin of Evil is basically the only sub 7 that I'd keep.

Skin Of Evil and Conspiracy were good I like both of those.

Skipped most of season 2 and 3 sadly. I liked episodes like Times Squared, Q Who, and Evolution but geez it's a hard watch.. Drumhead was good this time around I didn't mind that one.

A Matter Of Time was ok I had fun with that episode.
Just watched New Ground and liked that one too. Silly soliton wave experiment. Who didn't see that coming?

Time's Arrow is the only one next that I like.

My cursory ratings of Season 1 from another thread.

If you watch the first *** episode "The Naked Now" and think it's too painful, skip the *** episodes and just watch the ****:

(9) Meh *
(6) Continuity **
(7) Decent ***
(4) Good ****

Encounter at Farpoint (Parts I & II) ** (the weakest pilot in the franchise, but you gotta watch the pilot, and it plays into the series finale)
The Naked Now ***
Code of Honor *
The Last Outpost **
Where No One Has Gone Before ****
Lonely Among Us *
Justice *
The Battle *
Hide and Q **
Haven **
The Big Goodbye ***
Datalore *
Angel One *
11001001 ****
Too Short a Season *
When The Bough Breaks ***
Home Soil *
Coming of Age ***
Heart of Glory ***
The Arsenal of Freedom ****
Symbiosis *
Skin of Evil *** (not a ****, but you'll want to watch this one)
We'll Always Have Paris ***
Conspiracy ****
The Neutral Zone **

EDIT:
Watch the 4 bolded **** titles,
maybe the 7 underlined *** titles,
for continuity the 6 plain ** titles,
and for completeness the 9 italicized * titles.

Hope this helps. It’s been fun for me to think about whether or not it’s useful to you.:rofl::rofl:

Oh and since someone else mentioned Homeward I plan to watch that one when I get to season 7. What season was the one with the exocomps?

I had that issue with Breaking Bad. Watch the first two seasons and I could not get into it.

No, only "The Child", the premiere episode for Season Two. "Devil's Due" wasn't used until Season Four.

True; however, a number of the characters from TNG were recycled from Phase II. The older, seasoned Kirk became Picard; Will Decker and Ilia became Will Riker and Troi (I'm convinced there's a Troy/Ilium pun in there); and Xon, the full Vulcan seeking to learn more about emotion to relate better to his human colleagues, was merged with the title android of Roddenberry's The Questor Tapes pilot to become Data.

Hey, you don't need to tell me this. :) But the OP's claim that more "Phase II" scripts were reused was incorrect.

The other "recycled" script would be "The Naked Now", essentially a replay of TOS's "The Naked Time". And Trelane providing inspiration for Q, I guess.

That was more of a sequel than a remake. It did rehash a lot of the same plot beats, but that can be said of many sequels (see "More Tribbles, More Troubles").

Yep, I know Roddenberry intended it to be a sequel, but fan complaint was that it essentially retrod the same ground.

At least it openly acknowledged its connection to the TOS episode, speaking directly of Kirk and the old Enterprise and their similar dilemma. One of the very few times early TNG actually acknowledged the TOS era, in fact. In fact, I'm not sure if there are any other references besides McCoy's cameo in the pilot until "Sarek" in season three.

I stand corrected. I thought more episodes (like "The Child") especially in season two were recycled due to the writers strike. Perhaps it was more characters and themes.

Season 2 was actually four episodes shorter, and the finale was a "clip show", "Shades of Grey".

The delayed start to the season was because of the strike, but "Shades of Gray" had no connection to the strike, contrary to popular belief, so it's misleading to bring it up in this discussion. It was made a year after the strike, and clip shows like it have long been a routine practice in TV, done strictly to save time and money. Specifically, making a clip show was a tradeoff the producers agreed to in order to get more money for "Elementary, Dear Data" and "Q Who."

All the more reason not to perpetuate the misconception.

I am so baaaaad.

In a season already four episodes short, it seemed bizarre to waste another slot. I do not understand why they didn't mine cutting-room floor trims of previous episodes. A very funny Bev/Worf scene in Wesley's cut birthday party, for one.
