Is that Stargate Atlantis movie back on track?

Joseph Mallozzi talked about 'rumblings' on the SG-1 movie front, on his blog. But didn't elaborate further.

I'm just going to assume that they kept Atlantis on Earth, since there is no reason to take it back to the Pegasus galaxy, and that they made it their new home of operations for the Stargate program, since it has a superior Stargate on board, and they somehow managed to get it back to the outpost in Antarctica and hook it back up. That is a good place to have Stargate operations from, away from everything. I like it, and thats what I want to have happened. The Atlantis story is over, the city ship is back home.

Yeah. We'd have to assume the more natural things, like Teyla (and probably Ronon) heading back to Pegasus eventually, and for SOMETHING to happen with the SGC's help to bring the Wraith conflict to a close. I don't mind Atlantis staying on Earth for an extended period of time while they pry every secret out of it.

However, we know Mallozzi and co. WERE planning on a sixth season including Atlantis' return to Pegasus, and continuing adventures therein. Who knows - we may get a line drop in the second season of Universe about what's happening. But I highly doubt we'll see urther adventures of the Atlantis team, sad as it is.

I know they were going to bring it back to the Pegasus galaxy, but in the real-world, this would never happen, it doesn't make any sense. The logical thing is to keep it on Earth and learn its secrets, take the darn thing apart if they have to, but it would give Earth one HECK of an advantage over, well, everyone, now having the Asgard database as well as the Ancients database and technology. No way military superiors would let that slip out of their hands.

Returning it to the Pegasus Galaxy would be really stupid. If it left Earth for any reason then it should be like a modern Aircraft carrier-surrounded by a huge protective force. There should be a fleet that goes along with it.

I really dislike that they still have the Stargate program secret. China knows, the Russians know, the French know, etc. Who are they keeping it secret from? The little people are kept in a low level of technology just like the Go'uld kept their slaves.

In the alternate timeline of "The Road Not Taken" (SG-1), public knowledge of the Stargate program ultimately let to a dystopian world in which the United States is under martial law and wages on war on Ireland with F-302s.

We could debate over the realism of this episode, but in-universe it works as a good argument why the Stargate should be kept a secret.

Not exactly. F-302s were sent to Ireland to deal with a "terrorist situation," but this was at the request of the Irish government, according to Hammond.

On the subject of Atlantis, I agree that it should logically stay on Earth. There is no reason whatsoever to return it to the Pegasus galaxy. Even if the SGC still has an interest in Pegasus, they can just send the Daedalus or some other ship out there on regular missions. Or possibly even build a base on a Pegasus planet, just like the Alpha Site or Icarus, if they wanted to maintain a permanent presence in the galaxy. There is no reason Atlantis should ever need to leave Earth again.

I'm curious to what stupid reason the writers were/are planning on using to get the city away from Earth.

High salt content in Earth's oceans were causin' the city to erode from the bottom up, and thus, it had to go back to Pegasus.

:D

Or at least alternate Hammond and the U.S. government claimed so. But that's the same government which indefinitely suspended democratic elections, so are we really giving much credence to their claims? For all we know, the alternate Irish government has become just as dictatorial as the American one, and those "terrorists" fought to restore civil liberties in Ireland. Our universe's Carter seemed to remain sceptical.

But as for Atlantis' return... maybe an urgent situation in the Pegasus galaxy would require for Atlantis to go there again? I suppose the writers would come up with a sufficient threat to justify it.

I know the plan regarding the Atlantis movie was just to take the script that would have been the season 6 premiere and turn that into the movie. But, at this point, it's pretty obvious that even if an Atlantis movie does get made, it probably won't be for until at least next year at the earliest before it's released.

So, in that respect, I think they should abandon the S6 premiere script, or at least modify it, to reflect that a number of years have gone by and not send Atlantis back to Pegasus. The way I see it, Sheppard and his team are re-assembled to travel aboard the Daedalus on the first mission back to Pegasus since Atlantis came back. Once there, they throw-down with the Wraith or whatever.

actually contrary to everything i've heard online about the production of the next two stargate movies being placed on hold, they are infact in production now as we speak and have been for almost 2 months now, here in Vancouver. A friend of mine was working on their set just last night.

I'm told they are working on both movies back to back, but I'm not clear as to which movie they are filming first.

My various friends working on the films are unfortunately all under NDA so can't tell me much, but i'm glad to hear the productions are moving forward at least. Maybe a release by Xmas isn't out of the question, but it seems early 2011 is more realistic.

I'll post something more when i learn of it.

Well, I heard it was delayed. When I asked why, I was told "Everybody's dead, Dave."

I told him that's not s very damn funny thing to joke about, and "Dave" is several relatives and friends, and my name is David, tank you very much.

I'd imagine that we'll get some inkling of what's going on with the city in season 2 of Universe. Given that a few SGA regulars are set to appear I doubt they'll just NOT mention it.
