What DS9 subject matter or people do you wish were farther fleshed out?

Top of my head: Kohn Ma. That might have been very interesting to see how the Feds/Cardies/Bajorans handled a radical terrorist group

The Pah-wraiths seemed kind of tacked on toward the end of the series run and then all of the sudden they are incredibly relevant yet not terribly fleshed out (especially compared to the Prophets).

Why the Breen joined a losing war.

This was one of those things where while it provided a dramatic push, I didn't really understand it. What do the Breen gain out of joining the war effort for the dominion, and what is under the helmets. Also, the Breen strike me kind of like the Gorn. People like them, but they were really a one-off species that didn't really add that much to the canvas other than to destroy the defiant.

-The idea of Bajorans other than Kira working on DS9 and their view of the Emissary.

-The post war situation on Cardassia (if the series had ended the war midway through season seven) and Garak's return to his homeworld.

-The origins of the Prophets and more about those once missing orbs that were discussed during the beginning of the series.

-A religious war on bajor between those who followed the Prophets and those that followed the Pah-Wraiths (I would think the stabbing of the Emissary Sisko in the first episode of the 7th season could have been a wonderful way to introduce this conflict. Perhaps the majority of Bajorans would have found it ironic if the Pah-Wraith followers would have resorted to terrorism. maybe former terrorist members would go up against their old comrades with each knowing the others tricks and MO. Also this would lead to more conflict for Sisko as Starfleet points out to him why accepting the role of a Bajoran religious figure has in some ways led to bloodshed on Bajor. Perhaps the pah-Wraith followers would even burn down that house that Sisko built for him and Kassidy. This would really add more credibility to the Prophets' warning in Sacrifice of Angels that "the Sisko will find no rest here." I could go on and on about this).

-A followup to the Marquis. Would have been nice to see a few of them around to help the AQ fight the Dominion.

-Jake the journalist. During the war he would have been better off leaving the station and reporting on how the war was affecting civilian colonies and soldiers on the front line. He was basically wasted in the last two seasons so why not do that?

-Jake and Ziyal. They could have formed an interesting friendship considering who their fathers were. Considering that, their similar age and the fact that both of their mothers were dead, it should have been a no-brainer for these two to have interacted. The fact that they never got one scene together on the show is one of many wasted opportunities that even a great show like DS9 is guilty of having IMO.

-Less of the comic Quark and more of the criminal Quark. I wanted to see more of his connection with travelers to DS9 who happen to work outside the law. And I wanted more serious storylines involving this element of Quark's lifestyle.

Off the bat they gained several Cardassian worlds and the (shaky) promise of Earth and other worlds. The Founder pretty much offered them whatever they wanted to get into the war and they took it.

I really wish they'd never created the Pah-Wraiths. They always hit me as a very silly counterpoint to the Dominion War.

Sure, they were promised a lot, but the Dominion sold them a bill of goods.

I can kind of buy that they thought with their energy-dampening-thing weapon they'd be able to break the Allies... but what Starfleet have they been looking at all these years, that wouldn't develop countermeasures, and rapidly?

Starfleet was very lucky in the war that they got their hands on two Jem'hadar ships that let them counter two of the Dominion's best advantages, been able to penetrate their shields at will and the energy dampening weapon. Neither did they factor in a popular rebellion by the Cardassian military and then population when the Dominion should have been pushing their advantage. Also add the luck that one ship should survive the battle in Chin'toka and that it was something that allowed for the rest of the Klingon fleet to become immune. All it would take is that the ship that wasn't disabled was destroyed the old fashion way and history changes, the allied fleets can't hold the line and the Dominion can smash the allied militaries and drive forward and by the time a countermeasure was found it would be too late and the war's eventual victory would be firmly in the Dominion's hands. Luck (the writers) were not with the Dominion.

It seems like all the Breen had was their energy dampening weapon. As we see in "The Changing Face of Evil", their ships are otherwise completely outmatched by Starfleet ships. The Defiant tore one of their ships to shreds with just a few shots.

I wished they explored Benny Russell a bit more and played around a bit more with the notions of dreams and reality that they touched on - I think there was a lot of potential there to say something really profound. I also loved the idea behind the rumour floating around at the time that the final scene would be Benny sitting outside of a studio with a script for Star Trek, but I know a lot of people hated it.

The fact DS9 had been the scene of so much pain and suffering during the occupation could have have been explored a bit more too. Necessary Evil showed the massive potential in exploring DS9's (and its character's) dark past.

The brief mention that the Federation was trying to get the Ferengi to ally with them in the war was a rather interesting aside I thought. The massive upheavals Ferengi culture undergoes being caused by the threat of war or even Dominion occupation could have been far more interesting to explore than the antics we got.

The changeling that appeared in Chimera. He was an arrogant fellow. I was expecting him to return to Odo when he discovered he was infected.

I disagree with the last part but it would have been nice to get a follow up to whatever it was that Nog was meant to deliver to the Nagus in "Valiant".

Absolutely. And I'll throw the Prophets in the pot as well while we're at it. Those guys were the ultimate deus ex machina.

Ditto. Any excuse for more J.G. Hertzler is a good one.

Wasn't it just a treaty of alliance or something?

Crap, now I want to know. :p

Thomas Riker.

Would have liked a follow up to that onscreen. How did he hold up in the Cardassian prison. Did he get involved in the uprising, did he get mangled by Jem'Hadar, etc.

I wouldn't have minded it. Maybe it would've gotten the angels in the outfield fetish out of Ronald Moore, too.

Disagree. The occupation was a ludicrous exercise in showing how eeeevil the Cards were. I could never fully buy that a civilization capable of FTL travel needs slaves to push little carts full of ore around from one end of a space station to another.

Fully concur, even if I liked the antics. I wanted to see a Marauder, damnit.

You know what? So would I! Those things were gigantic, and I suspect built with the best technology a cheap Ferengi with latinum could buy...

On that we also had the True Way, which was a Cardassian terrorist group. Might have been interesting to see the Way and Ma play one-upmanship. It also didn't just have to include Bajor, you could move it into the DMZ and throw in the Maquis and now you have happy fun time for the zoners.

If Cardassia Prime doesn't fall, we don't get paid!
