Did anyone else notice that a certain LT James T. Kirk appears to figure prominently in the teaser for the musical episode next week? Guy must hate spending time aboard the Farragut!
Well, SNW is supposed to be a prequel to TOS. I wouldn't be surprised if we see the show evolving toward that.
To be fair, you did the exact same thing to johnjm22 (To be clear, I'm not taking a side in the argument. But you did the "Nope" thing to a statement that is objectively true.)
It can absolutely be a cultural thing. For instance I didn't find Fawlty Towers funny as a kid, I just didn't get the British humor. Today it is one of my favorite shows of all time. That was after being exposed to several other British comedies and eventually giving Fawlty Towers another try.
I guess my thing about the musical episode is: y’all whine enough there aren’t enough strange new worlds here. At least they’re making an effort to do something different.
I think we really need something like DS9 Star Trek series. Star Trek Picard season 3 was that but now it's over. Now we gonna have: Star Trek Strange New Worlds Star Trek Lower Decks Star Trek Prodigy Star Trek Starfleet Academy All of four show are mostly for kids and teenagers. We need something more serious like Star Trek Picard season 3 was and like DS9 was in the 90s.
No, we really don't. I'm on the other end of life from being a kid or teenager, and I know that we're not missing a Trek series for adults. We're missing one for people who take Trek and themselves far too seriously, which is all that Picard 3 actually was.
"Serious" doesn't make something "adult". In fact, it's usually the opposite, as "Serious" usually devolves into pretentious, puerile pablum. Like DS9 and Picard. Meanwhile, SNW actually deals with situations actual adults experience and presents themes with which they can relate.
Nope. Trek has always been silly. One of the most beloved movies is a comedy about whales. If anything, SNW feels like it has returned to an equilibrium that other P+ shows have been missing.
It really does. With all the crap going on in the real world, to just sit down and watch something and smile seems to be a forgotten hobby these days.
I once moderated a panel on British humor vs. American humor, featuring Pratchett and Esther Friesner. Easiest gig I've ever had. "Terry, meet Esther. Esther, meet Terry. Go!"
Your information is inaccurate and out of date. SNW and Lower Decks are not for kids or teenagers, while Prodigy has been cancelled.
What a great time to be alive! Maybe. Still a great show. Why not watch a show before judging it? What the fuck are you talking about?
You obviously do not understand the complete difference between the two things you just compared. The tweets you are referencing were completely insensitive and deploringly derogatory. The humor in the Guardians movies is nowhere near the same level of disparagement.
