Next week's episode seems to be compensating by being possibly the goofiest episode in the entire franchise, presumably because the people in charge don't want people thinking that SNW might be swinging back into being a consistently good show. Why make actual Star Trek episodes when you can just be a z-list hour long sitcom set in space?

Seriously what the hell do people want from Star Trek? I watched TOS and it had the most somber endings and it had laughing endings. This isn't a pure drama show. Action/adventure in a scifi setting.

So you're going to get hard hitting impactful episodes like this as well as comedic romps like the previous ep.

Exactly. I don't like horror, but Star Trek has its fair share of those types of episodes. That's ok. Just not for me. Doesn't make them less "Star Trek," whatever that could possibly mean.

It'll become less "Star Trek" when they start dealing with things like "The Force" & "Midichlorians" along with Jedi/Sith and have a "Chosen One" that was supposed to change the balance of power between the Jedi/Sith.
If that day should ever happen, there would be collective "Minds Blown" meme over the entire Sci-Fi / Pop Culture fandom.
Looking forward to seeing M'Benga and Pike smiling, dancing and singing together next week.

I thought he was doing quite well given his limited understanding. At least his first effort shifted the specificity of the conversation to a more general discussion about the "art" of war.

SNW is really good about pacing these things. Last year's "Lift Us Where Suffering Cannot Reach" was surrounded by lighter stories as well.
