Is Discovery your new favorite Star Trek series?

I agree with this

At this point I'm just looking for entertaining tv, and I'm a bit of an easy mark. But it isn't giving us anything new,

I almost thought it'd be better to give us a series between TOS films and TNG era, something in the time and era of the enterprise B, maybe more dealings with classic romulans, we never got a lot of them during TOS, they're kinda mysterious, woulda been cool to explore.

Maybe a future trek where we've entered into a whole other galaxy,

something new and exciting.
See I certainly don't see doing an in-between-quel in a different era as any different than what they're doing now - the timeframe between the movies and TNG isn't any more new and exciting than that between ENT and TOS, and arguably more constricting.

As for a series exploring a new galaxy doesn't seem that different to me from what we've already had - how would it be different to exploring our galaxy, in terms of the show itself? It will be space anomalies and planets of weird aliens with foreheads. They could do that in Discovery.

Yeah. Its probably not my favourite, but it is the one that's in production now.

I haven't watched every episode, but thanks to Netflix, I do have them all at my finger tips. I just watched the whole TNG run and I'm about the start DS9, but just watching TNG was a slog at times. Discovery is fresh, could be fresher, but its new and i don't know where its headed.

I don't know if it'll become a favourite, but its not just dating the older series, its making the other characters look stuffy and pretentious.

The crew use the corridors for exercise, course they do, they live in deep space. And they party like they're at a party, not a, well, I don't actually he a simile for the frigid borefest informal gatherings in ten forward that are presented as parties.

I dunno, but in retrospect, the federation and star fleet are starting to look really sinister.

Yeah I'm not seeing the shaky cam either. If anything, the old Trek shaky bridge camera seems to have largely gone.
What about the shaky corridor cam? Check the comparison at 0:50:

TOS was the 1st and in my book the best.
Because 50 years ago they imagined an exciting futuristic universe in which humans continue to thrive and explore space.
TNG and VOY are tied next, is DS9.
Last is ENT.
I'm reserving judgement on DSC until the end of the first season, however I'm rooting for a hail Mary pass at the end to change my current views and scores.

With every season now playing out as a separate novel, i have hope that this is going to be a great album.

Im superhappy for this chance to see and follow the continuing mission of Star Trek. I am truly excited for this first reboot in 12 years.

There are things that are fun to nitpick at tho and i enjoy dissecting an episode, but thats all part of a beautiful journey with this new serie for me. !!!!=)
So yes, right now... Its my favourite!

Attention all naysayers! Is Star Trek: Discovery perfect? No. Nothing is. Is it a very serious attempt by a group of producers, directors, showrunners, actors, cinematographers, and a multitude of crew members giving their all to try to create something wonderful, Star Trek worthy, groundbreaking, amazing, captivating, and for practical reasons, profitable? Yes. Are we always going to agree with the creative, technical, and production choices of the combined efforts of those creating this show? No. Is it easy for us to be critical while we sit back in our living rooms watching the show while they work long hours putting it together every day? Yes. Should we explore and discuss every detail of what we like and don't like and things they could do better? Yes. Maybe they are reading this and considering what we say and incorporating our feedback into their thinking. Are we having fun exploring all aspects of this? Yes. That's what this forum is all about. But I say we give the series creators/implementers a break, and enjoy the fruits of their work, enjoy it the best we can, discuss problems that maybe they will consider, and enjoy the ride. The alternative is no new Trek series, or at least just not watching it. That would be no fun at all. They are just getting their footing. Let's give them a break and see how this new adventure unfolds! I'm enjoying this new series, warts and all, and I'm glad the financial powers that be and the creative forces decided to give this a try! It's been too long without a new ST series. I'm going to give them some latitude and enjoy the show, while also enjoying discussing all aspects in a spirit of hopefully constructive critical reflection.

TNG
DS9
TOS
Orville
ENT
DSC
VOY

TNG
The Orville (don't forget the The)
TOS
ENT
DS9
VOY
STD

STD is still last, but it's annoyingly growing on me. Depending how rest of season 1 goes, it may over take VOY, but that's not saying much.

I'm pretty sure TNG will always be my favorite given it was a childhood love. I like Discovery a lot but its not likely a modern TV show will take the place of a lifetime favorite that easily, but we'll see! We should bring this question up again in 10-25 years, for sure.

DSC isn't my favorite Trek series, ENT is.

However I think DSC could become my favorite Trek series, depending on what happens next.

As for Orville: Meh. Doesn't look like my thing. I don't think I like the idea of turning Trek into a flat-out comedy.

Absolutely not. DS9 > TNG > TOS > > Other Treks.

I am watching it but it is just too early to get drawn in. There is also something off about the pacing or delivery that needs to be fixed for s2. I think it is set up to be a binge show and that it is probably better to watch it that way. Those who refuse to pay and instead binge on a free trial or maybe buy just 1 month could actually get a better experience out of it.

It really isn't a flat-out comedy. It has comedic elements, but is also doing pretty well in the drama department.

Of course, twenty-five years from now, we'll be arguing about a DS9 reboot starring Captain Eight of Nine. :)

I need more time before I would ever conclude something like this. However, it's the most invested I've been in a Star Trek series 8 episodes in, and in a sci-fi show since Battlestar Galactica 2004, so things are promising. I'm actually hyped about tomorrow/Monday's episode.

TOS will never be surpassed for me. It's not only my favorite Star Trek series, it's my favorite TV series of all time.

That said, TOS aside, I'm infinitely more accepting of, impressed with and excited by DSC at this early phase of Its existence than I was with any of the other series.

So, relatively speaking, DSC is far and away my second-favorite Trek show. The other series were borderline awful at this phase of their lifecycle.

It will need to go another 2 seasons before I can really venture a true comparison.

I will say, DSC already has my second favorite captain.
