Is Discovery your new favorite Star Trek series?

Now that we are deep into the new Discovery series, while it is intriguing, has fantastic production values, beautiful ship design both interior and exterior, new engaging characters that we are starting to care about...

Respectfully disagree. Don't see any evidence of that... the sets are too dark and too cold, the ship design is robust and unappealing, weird camera angles (dutch angle 90% of the time), dozens and dozens of totally superfluous lens flares throughout a single episode, vomit-inducing shaky cam, the characters are cranky 80% of the time, majority of them not likeable at all, on the contrary, some of them are very annoying, like that cadet. Don't care about the characters at all.

It's my favorite Star Trek series currently airing.

My favorite Trek series currently airing is The Orville. :-)

Disco has 7 years of work ahead of it.

7 years? lol
You really believe STD will last that long?

January: lol! You really believe STD will be released?
June: lol! You really believe STD will get renewed?
November: lol! You really believe STD will last that long?

I'd venture to guess there would have to be at least two stagnant seasons in a row before CBS would pull the plug.

You are unfamiliar with the Star Trek series shaky-cam trademark?

No and I doubt it ever will be. I don't dislike it, just isn't really grabbing my interest like other Treks

I am not ready to rank it with other Trek series yet. But it is my current favorite TV series, at least until GoT is back.

ST: D is the one show I really look forward to each week.

The above said, for me - noting will replace the original (1966-69) Star Trek as my favorite...ever. :)

Too soon to tell. I'm enjoying it, though. Certainly better than ENT, TNG or DS9 8 episodes in.

Nothing will top the original, though.

Ship is shaking -> shaky cam OK
Ship is NOT shaking -> shaky cam ?? Well, not OK
Really? I havnt noticed something like that in any episode... I saw something the other way around in tng tho, the characters on the bridge where jumping around in their chairs, but the camera stood still... That was strange to look at.

You probably didn't notice it because you were blinded by a myriad of lens flares. I however did notice it. The camera is shaking in almost every scene as if filmed by an amateur or a person with trembling hands. Terrible.

Or the actors' salaries get too high. :)

Uh oh.. SMG will get fed to a zombie again :D

There actually aren't that many lens flares. Please advise where they can be seen?

It might even last longer than 7 years, since that cap was due to salary issues, and I have a feeling that Discovery may be able to get away with a high degree of character turnover, unlike past series.

But, also unlike past series, it's the "golden age of television" where a premium is set on one fixed storyline running only a few years. So, Discovery could finish its tale naturally after five years or so.

It's a bit of a wash.

Hey, we all have to start somewhere. Some start with filming local theater productions and public access programming, others with multi-million-dollar franchise shows for a major broadcaster released on the internet. Once they learn the basics, they could one day film an episode or two of The Big Bang Theory.

Well, yeah, let's pretend there aren't that many. Riiiiight.
But there are, too many. A ridiculous amount of lens flares, actually.
Here are only some of the lens flares from the pilot episode (there are like 100 lens flares... dozens of them in some scenes that last only a couple of minutes...)
