Is Buffy Season 8 worth reading?

I recently read the Angel: After the Fall comics and thought they were really good, but I haven't touched the Buffy comics. Are they any good?

I've enjoyed reading all the TPBs so far. I know some people don't think they're that good, but I like them.

I think they are very good though i stopped reading somewhere between #16 and #18 (can't remember).

The dialogue is very witty and fun and they sure feel like the show at its best with the banter and situations. They even have a "season" storyarc started but somewhere in the middle lost totally track of it at which point i kind of lost focus.

Don't know about the quality of the few latest issues but they are fun to read i'm sure.

I've been enjoying the hell out of them, yes.
I especially love the cover artist. He nails the characters every time.

I've only read the first TPB so far, but it was enough to get me to order the second.

The Buffy comic is excellent and I find it much more enjoyable than Angel After the Fall. It really brings back the humor and fun of the earlier seasons and makes Buffy a fun character for the first time since S3. I did stop getting the issues six months ago I'm switching to the trades. But not because I don't love it!

I've read all four TPBs that are out right now, and I think it's very well done. I read the first TPB of Angel: After the Fall and didn't like it as much.

I read the first half dozen issues or so and I hated them. I loved the show, but the comics didn't feel like the show to me. The characters were only recognizable by their names, and the writing was too fanboyish. It just doesn't work.

Given the popularity of the comics you should give them a shot, but you might end up disappointed.

I'd say yeah, give them a shot. I've read the first four TPBs, and I've enjoyed them all -- although lately I've been wishing they would pick up the pace a little with the main story arc of the season. I was intrigued with it earlier on, but if feels like it's taking too much of a backseat to the other "mini-story arcs".

It's still enjoyable, however. Well-written too -- the "Whedon touch" is definitely present. Actually, there are times I think the writers go overboard with the English language-abusing slang that was often used in the TV series, but maybe that's just me.

I would recommend you try the first TPB, and if you like it, then read the rest. If you get up to the fourth TPB, Time of Your Life, I'd also suggest reading Whedon's mini-series Fray, if you haven't already. There are some characters in TOYL that were first introduced in Fray... plus it's a solid series in and of itself.

I've been reading them since #1. I imagine reading the all TPB's once it's over with would be awesome, but I'm not really an overly big comic reader, so reading a story one issue per month can be quite annoying with the waiting. And as Season 8 is set to be 40 issues, currently at #25, and it started back in early 2007, and won't finish till late 2010, it's not the same as your usual one-week-inbetween-episodes of the previous seasons :)
So because of that I've the slow pace a bit annoying at times. ie some of the 4 part arcs didn't really need to be 4 issues. The Faith arc (No Future For You) could easily have been done in 3, probably the same for Wolves at the Gate.
Though I recently bought the four available TPB's (as its nice to read them where every other page isn't a friggin ad) and I do think the stories work a lot better that way.

The whole thing looks set to really kick into gear with the next arc (26-30) featuring the return of my favourite Buffyverse charatcer- Oz, and giving us more insight into the big bad Twilight

Although I definitely preferred Angel: After The Fall (#1-17), and the prequel Spike: ATF (#1-4.) That was awesome, although I did find the overall ending a bit of a letdown, but the journey was worth it.
Just don't waste your money on the followup Angel: Aftermath (#18-22) as its absolutely awful! Just terribly written and terribly drawn (different writer and artisit to ATF by the way) Neither of them have obviously ever seen an Angel episode in their lives. Luckily ATF author Brian Lynch is returning after that for a few future issues

That depends; if you like Buffy S6 and S7 you'll probably like the comics because they're just more of the same crap, and in some ways worse.

If you didn't, you're not going to like the comics either.

I enjoyed season 8. The story can be really outlandish sometimes, but it is still fun. Like the series itself, the stories can be very hit or miss. I've read the four TPB's, and I've been entertained. The dialogue is much in the spirit of Whedon, but I agree that sometimes the writers go overboard.

I like them better the Angel: After the Fall, but I've only read the first TPB of Angel. Hopefully they get better.

I read the first 15 issues before I stopped in hopes that I'd forget about it and could go back once more story had come out and I could read through it quickly.

I got bored with the pacing, not the material.

Same reason I'm reading Blackest Night when its done.

A piece of advice I'd give to potential readers of Season 8, is if possible read the Fray TPB beforehand if possible (if you haven't read it already that is)
As overall plot arc of Season 8 relates to what we see in the future world 23rd Century shennagins of Fray. Especially helping when it comes to the crossover arc in the fourth Season 8 TPB Time of Your Life

Well, just to reiterate :D
Plus if you're super obsessive also get your hands on the Tales of the Slayers TPB, as there's a Fray story in there (post Fray, pre Time of Your Life) that sets up her new base of operations and her "sidekick"

No, it's terrible. The difference in qaulity and effort put into BTVS S8 and Angel S6, is EXTREMELY appearent. I have S8 WAY MORE of a chance it deserved, and I can't even seem to offload them for a decent price. Not even BTVS fans want 'em.

^I kinda feel the opposite. The Angel comics aren't doing much for me, but I'm lovin' the Buffy S8s.
