Inter-species Sex

Status
Not open for further replies.
It just seems a bit odd that people find sex with other species acceptable, under certain circumstances.

Most Star Trek fans don't get the heebie jeebies when they see an implied consensual sexual relationship between two or more adult humanoids. Once you wander outside those parameters, the level of comfort significantly drops, for obvious reasons.
Human + Horta equals heebie jeebies?

If you have no means of determining consent, you do not have consent.

But neither do you have a lack of consent.
Yes you do.

If you have no means of determining consent, then you have no consent. Period. Full stop. No consent is the lack of consent.

Please do some research on "lack of consent" and how it relates to a thing called "rape" and then come back.

YES means YES.
NO means NO.
MAYBE means NO.
NO ANSWER means NO.

Consent is consent. Anything that cannot be identified as such? Isn't.

Considering all of these species consist of *people*, the majority of which Starfleet deals with being educated adults, with the universal translator to allow proper communication, what's the problem?

What qualifies as consent? How "informed" does such consent need to be?

Clear "Yes" = Okay.

Unclear = Stop.
This should be the end of it. If communication is unclear and affirmation by the other party is not overt, then consent has not been given.

This.

Of course you would have a lack of consent, lack of consent is the default position.

When you first meet anyone there is a automatic lack of consent at that point, this is the on-going state of things up until something changes.

That change being both of you granting each other consent.

(or the fifteen or twenty of you granting all parties involved consent)

Dating a Vendorian would be great for some hentai-style tenticle sex.

The reasons are not as obvious to me as perhaps they are to you. Romance and sexual attraction are matters of the heart, and soul, and mind.

Your perceptions of what is alluring might be quite different than mine.

It is an interesting observation, all the trans-species romances in the show are with people who appeared basically human. Having a human engage in a consenting sexual relationship with a creature who is sapient and consenting but nothing resembling a humanoid shape might be morally acceptable but it'd be a lot harder for the audience to accept than a Klingon and a Trill.

But yeah, a key difference between a Vulcan and a dog is that a Vulcan will fully understand the situation he or she is in and the choices available to him and her. A dog does not even understand he has the right to say no. That's a pretty huge difference there.

It's interesting to note that apparently if a Starfleet crewmember wants to do the nasty with an alien, they must have permission from their CO first. Although I think this only applies to species that they've only recently made contact with (as per that VOY episode) and which are not either 1) already a fellow crewmember, or 2) a Federation citizen.

That being said, obviously the restrictions of TV are the main reason we've never seen a wildly different romantic pairing, but if there's mutual consent - and they can find a way to, well, make it 'work' - I wouldn't have a problem with it, I guess. It definitely wouldn't appeal to me personally, though.

Is that based on Fortunate Son or is it mentioned in other episodes?

In Fortunate Son, the reason it was against the rules is that it was illegal in the alien culture they were involved in diplomacy with. I don't believe you need the CO's permission in the general case if you are socializing legally with aliens off duty.

Would Odo qualify as non-Humanoid? I mean would he always be in a Humanoid shape while in bed with Kira?

Cochrane and the Companion is the only romantic couple I can think of where one was physically non-Humanoid. Of course Cochrane wasn't aware (until the end) that he was in a romantic relationship.

Typical man.

It was mentioned in the Voyager episode The Disease. People made a big deal out of that at the time but I just assumed it was because it was a NEW species. Starfleet has to find out if there are things that can make us or them sick or cause some kind of great galactic incident. Ensign Kim caught a space STD.

They also went on about Spock being half Vulcan, what Kirk and Riker got up to, Paris marrying a half Klingon, Worf and Jadiza...I'm sure I've left someone out. Those rules might well have come about BECAUSE of Kirk...

We should also mention that Crusher had a relationship with a Trill and of course Deanna was the product of a Betazoid/Human pairing. Did she also have a relationship with a new species as well? I can't remember.

As far as Paris/Torres and Worf/Jadiza they were all species who were members of the Federation. Everything about them was probably well known. You married a Klingon at your own risk of course.

Poster should have said "depicted as humanoid." All of Odo's romantic scenes, if I recall correctly, happened when he was in humanoid form. Well, there was the time he was a puddle in Luxwana's skirt, but I don't know how sensual or romantic that appeared as opposed to sweet and nurturing.

We were thinking of the same episode, just I got the name wrong. Two "Kim gets friendly with another race" episodes. :)

I didn't get the impression it was because it was a new species, it was because it was illegal in the new species' culture to have contact with outsiders. Kim was violating the law of a culture they were engaged in diplomacy with.

There was only one sex scene with Odo and Kira that I remember. He turned into a kind of mist and hovered over her. She seemed to really enjoy it.
