Just finished watching and it was indeed a great deal of fun. If nothing else, it shows just how much fun making all of the Indiana Jones films are for everyone, but especially Harrison Ford. I loved hearing all of the many anecdotes from everyone, particularly Steven Spielberg, James Mangold, Karen Allen, and especially Ke Huy Quan.

One thing in particular stood out: Getting to see the various early test scenes with Tom Selleck, Mark Harmon, Tim Matheson, and Sean Young. I don't know if that footage has ever been seen before but it was still very cool to see. I'm not sure if I even knew Harmon and Young were up for those roles until now.

Also interesting to see how everyone stressed at the end that there's no Indiana Jones without Harrison Ford and there's no point of doing anymore films now that Ford is done.

I certainly wouldn’t argue otherwise but if anyone was to reboot it reasonably soon (if), I’d see Chris Pine in the role

It* was in the special features in the DVD box set.

I finally watched the movie, I loved it.

I strongly disagree (see Hell or High Water, for example) but, as is commonly said in my neck of the woods, “le goût ne se discute pas”. In any case, it’s rather a moot point.
He was also amazing in D&D

they won't recast for live action until after Harrison Ford dies. hence the animated series. but if they did, I say Jack Quaid.

I'm a big fan of Chris Pine, but I don't know if I could see him as Indiana Jones. Now, Christ Pratt on the other hand....
I like both actors but I prefer Pine. But it’s all a matter of opinion.

Pratt could be a choice. The role needs someone who is not an obvious leading man. Someone who can be believably humble and self-deprecating.

As for the argument that only Ford can be in the role--that's bullshit. Many distinguished roles have been played by multiple actors. The case here is that the source material is a movie role, rather than a written role from a different medium. When enough time has passed, another Indiana Jones will emerge and will become that generations Indy. Harrison Ford will be remembered fondly in the same way as Buster Crabbe or Christopher Lee.

At least five people have already played Indy at this point. ;)

It's not unheard of for a franchise lead/iconic character staying with only one actor though. Only time will tell.

For anyone who doesn't want to see another actor put on the hat, the one upside to the box office cratering of Dial is that Disney aren't champing at the bit to do the next Indy thing any more. The role will conceivably remain vacant until Ford's passing.

I do not think we will ever get another successful Indiana Jones film - it feel a concept of its time and that has passed. They will try of course.

At some point, assuming there is still a movie industry in ten or twenty years (maybe sooner), Indy will return.

I like Pine too, but IMO he's just not right for Indy. He's very much the handsome, charming, obvious leading my type, and I don't really see Indy that way. To me at least, he's a bit more of a rough around the edges, everyman type, and Pratt fits that better.

We finally watched the movie yesterday, and while some of the chases went on a bit too long, it was a lot of fun. Hubby and I both agreed we'd be down for a spin-off movie or two with Helena and Teddy.

Red Letter Media's Mike Stoklasa got it right, IMO - Indiana Jones the character isn't special. He's Generic Action Man, with a mildly quirky fear of snakes. The only remarkable thing about the character was Ford's once-in-a-generation charisma as a charming and handsome yet also believably guy in his prime, and Ford's Indy hasn't been seen in his prime since that TV appearance in 1993.

It makes sense to recast characters like the TOS crew and Han/Lando/etc., because those characters occupy specific places in their series' overall narrative. Indy, however, is a modest US professor with a mild notoriety in archaeological circles. There's no compelling reason for a 1930s-40s archaeology-themed adventure movie to star Indy as opposed to any other character one could make up. After all, the second-best archaeology-themed adventure flick of the past century isn't any of the Raiders follow-ups, but The Mummy '99.

Would I personally be interested in seeing Indiana Jones and the Whooseywhatsit of Atlantis, starring Alden Ehrenreich or Anthony Ingruber? Yes. But Lucasfilm, or any other studio, might be just as well-advised to make Idaho Smith and the Whooseywhatsit of Atlantis, starring, say, Adam Driver. (And, if Lucasfilm makes it, they can always re-use the Raiders March.)

I do not think we will ever get another successful Indiana Jones film - it feel a concept of its time and that has passed.
I don't necessarily mind the culture-mining element, if properly handled, but it is something to consider. Lucasfilm could easily sidestep that by making a Doctor Aphra from Star Wars movie, but they seem terrified of doing anything even mildly original, given that all three of their latest announced movie projects, not to mention Ahsoka and The Acolyte, are Jedi-centric.

Just watched the movie. Really enjoyed it, it felt very Indiana Jones to me. Some of the effects weren't the greatest (it felt at times like the majority of the movie was filmed in front of a blue screen exclusively, yet not a very good one), but it wasn't enough to distract too much from the story.

I almost regret not seeing it on the big screen, but the convenience of streaming is just too tough to ignore sometimes.
