Independence Day - Resurgence

Plopping Pullman's speech from the first movie onto that trailer is a pretty clear sign that they have nothing new to bring to the table.

It's doubtful they'll destroy LA, Washinton DC and New York again and there's no drunk cropdusters do be had in the cast, so they'll have something new.

Same thought here, but I'm going to attribute it for now to not being stinkers about spoiling the whole movie in the trailer like some studios' Marketing Department idiots do. Also, It's been 20 years, so they want to remind us, and the unborn of those days, that there was once a real movie called "Independence Day" with a story that this one continues.

Odd note: It's hard to differentiate Bill Pullman and Bruce Boxleitner with a beard.

That trailer was surprisingly dark and serious, given how goofy and cartoonish the original was. Looked good to me! I'm particularly interested in seeing how the world adapted to using alien technology in everyday life.

Well crap, that's big.

It this a layered thing in their society. The city killers detached from a invader mothership in the first movie, now it looks like the motherships nest inside this planet killer?

Nice use of the speech though.

If they'd managed to rebuild all, or indeed any, of those cities - in only twenty years, no less - I'd be very surprised.

God only knows what the loss of all those major cities would have done to Earth's economy. But I guess they managed somehow...

Honest to God, let's not get into an actual real life debat on wether or not it's possible cities like that could be rebuild in 20 years though....

So many topics about superhero movies or movies with aliens have been ruined in this forum, because people start talking about wether or not things like that are really possible....

It's make believe. Let's leave at the silly, mindless entertaintment it is, and just either enjoy the hell out of it's sillyness, or think it's to stupid to enjoy. But not bring it into Real World. Because it's not. Really, really, not.....

Well, considering how long it took to rebuild the World Trade Center (aka The Freedom Tower), I'd say that total rebuild of any one of those cities would be impossible. Even if you had every construction crew in the country with no political red tape to get in the way, it would be hard to rebuild even just half of Manhattan.

For those curious about Will Smith's character, the official viral site for the movie reveals

he died in 2007 test piloting a hybrid vessel

Tone deaf to preceding posts.

Just saw the trailer. Wasn't that interested before (sure I was going to see it but out of general geek obligation and mild curiosity), but now I actually want to see the film. Good trailer.

Cliche. When are they going to stop blowing up worlds and move on to something different like blowing up entire solar systems?
