Independence Day - Resurgence

She was not on the list, and she did not decline the part. She very subtly retweeted her criticism of being replaced.

I'd source it for you, but after having gone through the research effort myself before posting about it, I think you could too. Google is your friend.

The general answer is not the right kind of "hot."

And I guess you can take the point of view that Hollywood is to blame, or that audiences vote with their pocketbooks what they want to see and Hollywood simply responds to that. Regardless of what's right and fair or what's politically correct, the reality is often different than the ideal.

Now not to defend Hollywood (it's a cutthroat industry with no regard to accountability or decent human behaviour) but isn't that "not hot enough" pure conjecture?

All i could find is people talking about the reasons and bringing this up without anyone associated with the movie confirming it (as if they would but sometimes people's tongues slip so there may have been that).

Another reason is that she has made a name recently with some good performances apparently which automatically raises her asking salary and which may have been too much for the producers so they took an unknown actress who will be cheaper.

That's at least a common reason because i've seen a recent picture of Mae and she is very attractive (at least to me).

However this being Hollywood we will never know the real reason.

Adam Baldwin is starring in The Last Ship. so maybe that got in the way of appearing in this sequel.

I wrote "not the right kind of 'hot'" - not "not hot enough."

No one from the studio or the production is going to make the collective audience aware of its own hypocrisy about its outward ideals and inward lust when it responds with outrage when those ideals are not met while being aroused by hot actors and actresses - it's bad business to cynically call out the customers on their base nature. So all you're going to find are emergent comments about it from the audience ideals. Call it the Bristol Palin celibacy theory of the Hollywood audience.

That is agravating if she wanted to come back and they didn't ask her before recasting. I would like to think there would be more to it than just looks, but sadly I'd probably be wrong.

Maybe the producers didn't think she'd be good looking enough to be with Liam Hemsworth character.
It very much sounds like they believe the other actress is a better fit for Liam. That sort of diplomacy avoids saying embarrassing things.

I love it that the entire cast is back. A pity Will Smith isn't.

I also like the set design, and the idea of a moon base a lot. My expectations are up.

Does anybody know why he won't be in it?

According to Cinemablend, Emmerich was ready with the answer: He said that although Smith was initially eager to come back as fighter pilot Steven Hiller, the actor began to have second thoughts about the movie's proposed father-son relationship with Hiller's son Dylan (Jessie Usher):

"In the very beginning, I wanted to work with him and he was excited to be in it but then after a while he was tired of sequels, and he did another science fiction film, which was his father-son story, so he opted out."

Could be bullshit but that's what they're saying.

^ In other words, they didn't pay enough.

I don't know if that's true or not but Will Smith not coming back had to be a blow. I wonder if he would've signed if they had brought Jayden on as the son? Martin Lawrence should be available though, no? :)

^People have been pissy about Jayden being in movies for a while, and maybe he wanted to have his son be with him as you said, but Emmerich & Co. said no.

I was really hoping for him to have become the ranking military commander in charge of space defense

Jayden Smith's nine years too young (17) to be playing the grown up Dylan. Even Jessie Usher is three years younger than the age the actor who played Dylan is today (26), but that's less noticeable a difference.

Also, going back to the earlier discussion, it should be noted that although Ross Bagley/Dylan is still a current actor (though much less prolific and recognized than Mae Whitman is), his role got recast as well.

Fox just showed the Independence Day 2 Trailer during their Football coverage. That really shocked me because I thought it was going to premiere with Star Wars. It looks interesting, to say the least.

Nothing in Youtube yet. Very curious. I think this could actually be a pretty fun film.

Emmerich and Bay movies are solid choices usually when you just want to turn off your brain and watch shit get blown up good (Bay less so, he's hit or miss nowadays).

So i'm expecting a solid 2 hours entertaining movie with some big CGI scenes and battles. If it turns out to actually have a solid story and good actors, well that's just gravy.
