...and this time, Ruth Wilson is definitely returning! Filming begins in February.

From Variety:

Jamie Payne is directing the sequel from a script by series creator Neil Cross. In this chapter, Luther is secretly called back into service when a new wave of brutal, seemingly random murders hits London. “But how can he save London when everyone on all sides seems to want him dead?” the official logline asks.
“Neil has yet again, created a wonderfully dark tale to bring us all back together. It’s a true joy to be back on the streets of Lutherland with the supreme talents that are Idris Elba and Dermot Crowley,” Payne said in a statement. “I am also thrilled to be reunited with the brilliant and dangerous Alice Morgan played by the extraordinarily talented Ruth Wilson. Fans new and old are in for a treat!”
The Fallen Sun was intense and bizarre and ridiculous but I'm all for another lap on the crazy train of this mad series. Especially with Ruth Wilson returning. Considering the brutal violence Luther experienced in The Fallen Sun, I guess it's not that hard to imagine Alice has miraculously survived, too.

Now we can renew speculation of who was in the SUV. I'm still hoping for the longer overdue return of Rose Teller, even if I know that makes absolutely no sense and most likely won't happen.

I loved the series and Fallen Sun. Particularly happy that Ruth/Alice is back for a sequel. I’d probably prefer a new series but I realise that Idris is probably too big a star now to commit to a BBC tv series, so if they keep throwing us a new film every few years, that’ll do nicely.

Funny you say that because it recently came to my attention that Hijack has just returned for a second eight-episode season and I didn't even know a second season was in the works.

That said, I think Elba has been interested in doing Luther as a series of films for quite some time so it's not too much of a surprise to see this direction.

Solid set of casting, particularly Stephane Dillane. I know he usually plays assholes and bad guys, but it would be funny if he turned out to be an ally for Luther.

I have a question, can those living in the UK answer this: Was the first Luther movie broadcast on BBC One? According to IMDb, it was broadcast in 2023.
