I'm watching NEMESIS on AMC... The photo of young Jean Luc

PicardMullet.JPG

The network stopped calling themselves "American Movie Classics" back in 2002, so it's not like this is a new phenomenon.

I'm surprised they didn't correct that in the Special Collector's Edition of the Nemesis DVD like the issue with TMP (Vulcan's Moon) edition.

Is it possible they had him with no hair because they wanted it to resemble Tom Hardy's Picard clone? Maybe if they had hair on Picard it would confuse people?

Why would they? This is Star Trek, not Star Wars.

Because they corrected the moon issue with Vulcan on TMP, so why not this issue?

Also funny is the fact that in his meeting with Shinzon, Picard comments on how the face is not exactly the one he remembers when he was younger. And, yet, when he looks at a photo of his academy days, it is exactly Shinzon's face!

Ah well, who cares, Nemesis still had its good points. Like the battle scene... one thing I never expected to see was the Enterprise ram into another ship like it did. Thumbs up for scene! :techman:

What they did to TMP was to correct a host of issues, not just one shot. The main problems with Nemesis are at the script level. Any other "problems" stem from that.

You can't polish a turd.

having Shinzon aged so that Stewart could play the role would have been very interesting. but then if we're going that route i'd rather it be a Mirror Picard instead of a clone. drop Shinzon, B4 and the Romulans and just do a Mirror Universe movie.

I assume the director, who was so confused he thought Geordi was an alien, thought it would be easier for the audience if they just used a picture of a bald Tom Hardy for the photograph.

Whoa, what! Never heard of this one.

Anyway, had only this hair issue been worst of this movie's problems...

Would Data have a goatee?

Yeh, this was an oft-repeated story about Baird during the pre-production phase of Nemesis. I'm not sure what the original source was but there was a lot of cast grumbling about him.

Just shows how stupid the director of this movie is. The star of the show is bald and we need a picture of him at age 18? Get me a bald child!!

Did anyone else on the cast catch this? Especially Stewart-he should have known that his character was not bald in his early years.

Mind you, I saw this movie exactly once and haven't gotten around to revisiting it on DVD...but in the theater, I was under the impression, though it was never explictly stated, that this disease of Jean-Luc's that Shinzon was suffering from was being put forth as the cause of their mutual youthful baldness. Which was bullshit, of course, since Jean-Luc was seen to have hair in his youth and even adulthood in TV episodes. But that was my impression of what they were trying to establish in the movie.

The scene is further lacking of the sense because there's no way Crusher could have known him then, on account of how she's 19 years his junior.

It's a truly awful photograph. I always assumed they put it in to cover for the fact that Shinzon looks absolutely nothing like Picard - see! I too was bald and played by Tom Hardy when I was young!

Indeed. How could she have known him at the academy? She would have been a toddler! And couldn't Tom Hardy have worn a wig for that photo? How hard would that have been. The enlisted jumpsuit adds to the ridiculousness.
