If you had to kill off a character?

TOS - Sulu
TNG - Riker
DS9 - Kira
VOY - Janeway
ENT - Tucker

It's not necessarily because I dislike these characters (except Tucker), but I think they could have caused a significant stir to make things interesting.

TOS: Scotty, he would die saving the ship ofcourse.

TNG: Troi, a more shocking death than Yar, and a good storyline for Riker.

DS9: Kira, she would have to die by gul-dukat's hand.

VOY: The Doctor, No one would see it coming, and you could have had Kes take over as cheif medical officer.

ENT: Reed, because he's an a**hole!

Killing Kira off would be the stupidest move possible, since she was the character most connected to the core of the show and the background of Bajor and Cardassia, with continuous character development and possibility for further growth, and a ton of interesting storyline possibilities. And I can't think of any good reason to kill her off, either. Can anyone provide a reason for me, please???

Other than Odo, any other character on DS9 would be a better candidate to kill off.

Why not Miles O'Brien? He is actually a perfect candidate to kill off: he is a likable, sympathetic guy with a family and a best friend in the main cast, and a character the viewers have known for a very long time, whose death would have a huge emotional impact on the audience, but who is actually a rather static character and doesn't really have any strong connection to the show's mythology, or an important role in any ongoing storylines.

TOS - Uhura (it's not her fault, but she was merely the switchboard operator)
TNG - Troi (she was useless anyway)
DS9 - Sisko (false Messiah of aliens pretending to be gods)
VOY - Janeway (her PMS-like mood swings are cause enough to kill her)
ENT - Archer or T'Pol (flip a coin, either one or both)
ST09 - Spock (too emotional, he needs to grow up and be a Vulcan/man)

I realize she is very important to the show, but I just had to pick someone, and at that moment Kira dying sounded good. She's really not my type as far as her personality, and she rubs me the wrong way. That's my reason, good or not. ;)
Actually DS9 to me has the least expendable characters. I really wouldn't want to kill off any of them.

Why not Miles O'Brien?

I'd hate to lose all those great "torture O'Brien" episodes.

So if you had to kill off one character from each trek show, who would get the ax? They must be a main character and the following people are immune....... Mayweather from ENT, Chakotay from VOY , Wesley from TNG, And Jake Sisko from DS9 . they are too easy of an answer. and Kim from VOY, he is so terrible that i block him from my mind.

Star Trek: Chapel

TNG: Wesley

DS9: Um... maybe Ezri because I loved Jadzia.

VOY: Harry and/or Neelix.

ENT: Archer

TOS: Sulu (boring)
TNG: Riker (annoying)
DS9: Jadzia (dull)
VOY: Kim (useless)
ENT: Reed, Archer (idiots)

Lose the best actor in the main cast? I don't like the sound of that! They shouldn't have killed him off, they should have given him more to do - I was greatly disappointed how O'Brien was pretty much relegated to B-plots for the last year of the show.

TNG - Riker
Kill off Riker sometime during The Best of Both Worlds, temporarily leaving Shelby in charge. After Picard returns Shelby is made first officer. Starting from there Picard begins to have a series of mysterious accidents every third episode or so. Turbo lift accident, transporter accident, earl grey accident. It isn't until the middle of the seventh season that the fans (but not Picard) find out that Shelby has been trying to assassinate Picard so she could assume command of the Enterprise D. Shelby finally meet her own end when the Reman Viceroy drops her down the bottomless shaft in Nemesis.

Elizabeth Shelby and Deanna Troi are married at the beginning of Nemesis, instead of the dune buggy scene, there is a ten minute long hot lesbian sex scene (to boost the box office and DVD sales) and there is a whole double entendre behind Deanna ramming the Enterprise into the Scimter.

Yeah I don't think it is right to kill off characters just because we don't like them - they need to kill off characters that we DO like and let the other characters bounce off the repurcussions. Generally avoid killing ANY of the women - they are already under-represented in the franchise and killing off girlfriends so the boyfriends can emote or seek revenge is a terrible cliche.

TOS: Janice Rand - I absolutely love Rand to pieces. They should have kept her in the show as a regular guest star and she should have been the yeoman crushed to death as a polistyrene block. It was quite shocking that they killed the girl instead of the red shirt; if it had been Rand it would have been a dynamite death!

TNG - Data. I loved Data but I'd have been very happy if he'd 'died' for at least part of a season if only to make way for other scientist characters. They can rebuild him by next series and it can be an ongoing plot thread.

DS9 - Sisko - B5 phased out the original commander and I think killing Sisko and the repercussions would have been great fun. He's the prophet after all - I reckon the wormhole aliens would resurrect him somehow.

Voyager - Chakotay - but only if his stabilising effect on the Maquis was wiped out. We want to see some in-fighting! Who else could be first officer? That alone could have been interesting to see. Or have them lock up Janeway for part of a season and have Seska in charge for half a season - great fun!

I agree that he was one of the best actors in the main cast (I wouldn't go as far to say that he was better than everyone else).

I don't think he should have been killed off, but I am giving a suggestion on which one of the main characters would be the best choice if you wanted to kill off a character (without a reason like an actor leaving), not counting Jake because the OP said it & he wasn't much of a main character anyway, and not counting Jadzia because she was killed off.

Most of the posters just seem to be nominating characters they dislike, even when it would really hurt the show because the character was crucial and had tons of potential for storylines and development. I'm also going by the idea that you kill off a character because they are popular and likable and this would provide an emotional reaction, rather than "let's kill someone people dislike". (I don't dislike anyone from DS9's main cast, anyway.)

Who would you kill if you had to kill one of the DS9 main characters?

ITA on each of these points. re: killing off women so their boyfriends would seek revenge, it makes me  whenever I read another suggestion for Uhura (the only female in the main cast of the new Star Trek!) to be killed off so Spock would get angstier (as if he needs it :vulcan:).

It's amazing how, despite the fact that there are at least twice as many male characters than female in Trek shows main casts, most of the most divisive characters tend to be women. Or maybe that's to be expected...

TOS - Chekov - He's a tool - not everything was 'inwented' in Russia.
TNG - Geordi - Nice guy, but let's face it, he didn't really do much.
DS9 - Odo - For some reason I was never really a fan. I think it would have been interesting to develop Eddington more as the Chief of Security/Maquis spy.
VOY - 7 of 9 - I like boobs as much as the next guy, but she was just a thinly veiled attempt to get more teenage boys to watch. I could never get past that.
ENT - I honestly don't care. Just for fun I'll say Trip. Boy, only a moron would want to kill him off....
