Think I'd probably be happy pottering round in a crappy old freighter really
Yeah I know what you mean. Honestly I'd want a civvie life of some sort editing and gentleman farming on some quiet backwater (like earth, but Roddenberried, and maybe with more coastline). Starfleet not for me, I'm not an intrepid explorer and I hate the idea of duty shifts for gods' sake. And I doubt cities or high-tech surroundings would appeal to me then any more than now. Just give me the comforts of these later centuries--unobtrusively.

Funny almost sounds like you'd have been at home on the Nostromo. Hey you're not Harry Dean Stanton huh?

I say ENT, due to the fact that all the familiar "alien" races are "new" to humanity, where you could really make a difference. Imagine being around BEFORE there was a "Federation" or "Starfleet", and technology is more familiar to the 21st century mind. In fact, I have a "dream" scenario where I would sign up for UESPA (after drowning my sorrows with a pint or two of ale). I would join up as a crewman, have adventures on board the NX-01 Enterprise (participating in the Earth-Romulan War), see the founding the of UFP, get caught in a time-warp that sends me forward (exposing me to temporal energies that retard my aging), re-enlist under Captain April, leave for Starfleet Academy, return as an officer under Captain Pike, then under Captain Kirk, get caught up in yet another time warp (which takes away the temporal energies that retard my aging), serve under Captain Picard, then transfer to DS9 (under then-Commander Sisko), get caught up in the Maquis (as a double agent), only to be whisked to the Delta Quadrant, where I would serve under Captain Janeway, share the last bit of temporal energy to allow Kes to age like a human, get caught up in an unstable wormhole with the Ferengi that takes me back to the Alpha Quadrant, participate in the Dominion War, discover a malfunctioning Iconanian Gateway that takes me back to the Delta Quadrant, continue to serve under Janeway again, return home, get invited to Riker and Troi's wedding, face off against Shinzon with the rest of the crew, assist Ambassador Spock in trying to stop the destruction of Romulus, only to end up in an alternate timeline where I would serve under a younger Captain Kirk...

I think that covered everything. ;-)

Indeed. I'll give you full marks for what appears to be an indomitable constitution, but that would seem like a little too much action for my taste. After having what would seem like a requisite number of adventures for that lengthy a time frame, I think I would prefer to settle down in seclusion for awhile, like Flint.

The main reasons I mentioned a preference for the ENT time frame are:

- It's my favorite out of all Trek shows. So I just stick with what I like best.

- As I said, I'm not cut out to be in the military. So I'd fit best as a civilian, like a freighter captain or something.

- As the most recent Trek incarnation (as far as time frames go), I can relate to it more. Life in the 23rd or 24th centuries is probably so different as to be unimaginable to somebody like me. I wouldn't know what to do with myself. I wouldn't understand a world like that. The Earth of the 2150's is probably less jarring than any of those.

I've sometimes considered my careerlike this:

As an ensign direct from the Academy, I would have joined the security team on the Enterprise due to the events in "Encounter At Farpoint" at Stardate 41153.7 year 2364.
Then, in 2369 at Stardate 46379.1, I would have been transferred to Deep Space Nine where I would have served in the Security team led by Primmin who was also transferred from the Enterprise.

Then, in April 2371 I would have been transferred to the USS Voyager where I would have spent the coming seven years.

I would be a civilian, and would enjoy my life on 24th century Earth as much as possible, unlike my real life here and now, which I mostly don't enjoy at all anymore.

Since it is my first love, I voted TOS. I would have loved to have served with that crew. It certainly filled a lot of my boyhood fantasies way back in the day. Second choice would easily be DS9. I've been on duty, far from home, many times and that place just seems to me to be the perfect place to go and do that. So many interesting characters in and out. Love it.

Reactions: Kor
Terok Nor, serving under Dukat during the Occupation, when the Bajoarns knew their place. I would like to be a security officer, something like Thrax, interrogator, social engineering specialist, or data analyst. Doing my best for Cardassia. And I would love drinking kanar at Quark’s.

Or when the Dominion took over DS9, I would enjoy jesting with Weyoun and infuriating Major Kira. If she did not call me a “nasty Cardassian oppressor” seventeen times a day, I would suffer deeply.

DS9. Love the station, shore leave on Bajor, travel through the wormhole, Quark's looks like fun, the Defiant is badass, all the alien cultures. Awesome stuff all around!

In the world but not a series location. Would be during the time of the Enterprise-E. located on a orbital starbase/dockyard facility. Located on the Federation frontier. Get to see all of the Soveriegns, Galaxys, and Intrepid classes ships come and go. Working as a private tactical missions consultant. Some times going out on StarFleet missions to deal with hostile first contact situations. My personal hero is Captain James T Kirk and have constantly studied his missions. And I am an expert at "Kirking" alien computer mainframes that control their civilizations into stagnation.

Living in the TOS era wouldn't be so bad but I wouldn't want to serve on the Enterprise.

Having a captain that will send you to escort an evil robot that just vaporized the people he sent to escort it would not make me feel like a valued member of the team. Kirk's strategy of "Throw a few ensigns at it and see if they die" to see if something is a threat is not good for your health if you aren't in his inner circle.

TNG and DS9 would both be good, TNG for the idealized human race and DS9 for the fun. Enterprise would be okay, less casual disregard of low ranking lives. Wouldn't want to serve on Voyager. Besides being stuck for long periods of time on rations and low energy mode, if I died they wouldn't even reduce the count of the crew roster.

I was deciding if it should be TNG, DS9 or VOY

I like Voyager but I wouldn't want to be on Voyager being stranded in the Delta Quadrent for a long time with.
I could go for DS9 as a civilian from Earth.

I voted for TNG instead to be on the Enterprise D.

I voted DS9, just because a cursory glance shows that DS9 and the command of The Sisco would appear to have the lowest on screen fatality rates among enlisted personnel. And that's truly horrifying when you realize that that was the show with the war.

Easily TNG. The shiny big flagship. The best crew in the fleet. The most moral captain in Starfleet. etc.

What makes DS9 my favorite series is all the politics and intrigue, basically the opposite of what I'd want to live with on a daily basis.

My favorite era is TOS and TOS movies...but I'd much rather live and serve in the TNG era.

I'll say Next Generation. Hardly anyone dies and the Enterprise-D looks like a really luxurious place to live and work. Too bad it can only last for 7 years before the ship is destroyed. The Enterprise-E did not look nearly as inviting a place.

I'd absolutely echo that! Also, it was (IMO) the best series morality-wise. There was nearly always some important moral lesson you'd learn each week.
