I would live in the universe depicted in the original and true Star Trek (1966-1969).

I would choose either the command or sciences career path, on a starship.

Or maybe I would want to be stationed planet-side... for instance, at Starbase 11, working with Miss Piper. :adore:

Easy. TOS--more historic events / opportunities happened in that period, and Starfleet captains were not indecisive, second-guessing types needing decisions made in a boardroom.

Enterprise is an interesting one. As an engineer/Scientist it would have been fascinating to be one of the pioneers. On a recreational/personal level, it seems like it's boring as hell. It's all work and no play basically.

There's basketball and maybe martial arts in the cargo bay. But it doesn't have the hotel amenities of TNG so you have to be more creative about your recreation. If you're adventurous, ENT is the environment for you, especially if you're the first to do everything. But being the first is also the worst thing about it. Just imagine getting in the middle of a skirmish when they originally thought they didn't need weapons. And that's not even getting into the war with the Xindi and Romulans. Definitely not for the risk-averse.

Voyager
I'd work the night shift and be Paris' relief pilot.
And chide him on his fondness for Camaros. Everyone knew that the Camaro was a girl's car. It's Firebird, GTO, or Mustang. Preferably Firebird. I own a TA.

Hmm, you seem to be slighting, or just ignoring, the Charger or Challenger. Well, to each their own.

My vote is for Enterprise. Being the first to meet those other cultures, find out what they're about, investigate 1st hand stellar phenomena, and depending closely on a smaller group of crew mates that would foster memorable friendships. It's interesting as I dismissed DS9 immediately because of the war and yet as pointed just above by T'Arwen, there are manifest dangers present in this world as well. Still, I think that the responsibility that is being reposed in you by Starfleet to justify its active future is something else that would tip the scales. As for posting, I think I would choose the sciences or perhaps more likely, medical, as Phlox would be a very interesting character to work with. :techman:

^ There's only one problem working with Phlox - he's always right!

Hmm, makes me wonder if I'd rather work with someone who believes they are always right, or is actually always right....

Oh, and good luck when his amorous wife Feezil comes aboard!

TNG movie era time period (specifically, "Nemesis", if possible) - but just for the most advanced technology available. NOT Starfleet. Serving aboard a very nice interstellar luxury liner making trips back and forth along a highly patrolled corridor between two very modern, metropolitan, and diverse colony worlds of the Federation that you've never heard of, and where there's no real danger, because they aren't political or military targets, and not much to worry about ever happens there. And the liner goes to each of these worlds because they're within visual range of very beautiful but known and SAFE cosmic phenomenon. ;)

From Drone:
"Hmm, you seem to be slighting, or just ignoring, the Charger or Challenger. Well, to each their own."

I'll give you that one. When I was a kid I was a big fan of the movie "Vanishing Point".
I just never had an opportunity to drive either car. Or even get an up close look at one. Except for the new ones.

And to add to my duties on Voyager as second string pilot. I'll serve as Seven's unofficial stalker. A polite and respectful stalker.
In return I'll make sure that her alcove stays perfectly clean and functional.

You do not die or sustain any injuries that would render you unfit for service.
That's good to know, so PTSD would be off the table for this scenario?

In that case, I'd probably go with TNG, seems like the comfiest place (disregarding planetary crashes as in GEN).

I'm definitely not "Starfleet Material", so I'm pretty sure I wouldn't fit in on the Ent-D or Voyager, DS9 for me, doing something on civi street.

I say ENT, due to the fact that all the familiar "alien" races are "new" to humanity, where you could really make a difference. Imagine being around BEFORE there was a "Federation" or "Starfleet", and technology is more familiar to the 21st century mind. In fact, I have a "dream" scenario where I would sign up for UESPA (after drowning my sorrows with a pint or two of ale). I would join up as a crewman, have adventures on board the NX-01 Enterprise (participating in the Earth-Romulan War), see the founding the of UFP, get caught in a time-warp that sends me forward (exposing me to temporal energies that retard my aging), re-enlist under Captain April, leave for Starfleet Academy, return as an officer under Captain Pike, then under Captain Kirk, get caught up in yet another time warp (which takes away the temporal energies that retard my aging), serve under Captain Picard, then transfer to DS9 (under then-Commander Sisko), get caught up in the Maquis (as a double agent), only to be whisked to the Delta Quadrant, where I would serve under Captain Janeway, share the last bit of temporal energy to allow Kes to age like a human, get caught up in an unstable wormhole with the Ferengi that takes me back to the Alpha Quadrant, participate in the Dominion War, discover a malfunctioning Iconanian Gateway that takes me back to the Delta Quadrant, continue to serve under Janeway again, return home, get invited to Riker and Troi's wedding, face off against Shinzon with the rest of the crew, assist Ambassador Spock in trying to stop the destruction of Romulus, only to end up in an alternate timeline where I would serve under a younger Captain Kirk...

I think that covered everything. ;-)

I agree with Bagofmostlywatr... I am definitely not Starfleet material, so I'd probably want to be a civilian, and during TNG's era on Earth -- when and where it's relatively safe. I have no idea what I would do professionally. Most of the things I've been interested in or for which I've shown talent would be obsolete.

What role does marketing play in a post-capitalist society? Do at-risk youth exist to mentor in a world that eradicated hunger and disease? Does anybody build scale models anymore when you can just order what you like from the a replicator, or have a chat with the computer on a holodeck to create a full 3D environment? Maybe I'd take up writing. I've always romanticized the notion of being a writer, although the longest thing I've ever been able to write was five pages.

On second thought, I would like to be pulled into the Nexus from ST:GEN.

Then I could live out whatever scenarios I wanted, forever!

I would go to Enterprise-D because those quarters look so nice, I wouldn't mind living in a 2016 replica of Ent-D quarters.

Also, Enterprise-D looks like the most comfortable surrounding to live in, hallways, Ten Forward, all of it.
