which one would it be?

Sorry it WOULD NOT be Visionary; 'twould be Whispers-for me.

Probably think seriously about Hard Time

Even though I actually like the episode, The Assignment. I don't like Keiko and the whole Pah Wraiths storyline just never did it for me. The reason I like the episode though is purely because of Meaney's performance.

I wouldn't even consider Visionary or Whispers, those are two of DS9's best episodes. I'd nominate Armageddon Game - the thing about Colm Meaney is that he's so good that he can breathe life into weak scripts (e.g. Time's Orphan), but not even he could make that one interesting.

Would The Storyteller count? After all, it must have been torture to endure a bunch of backwater Bajorans, not to mention S1 Bashir. :p

I'm not sure, but it certainly shouldn't be Whispers - that was a brilliant episode, or Hard Time. I'd also keep Tribunal for the dark comedy of Cardassian judicial system. Anything else is fair game. Although, I don't remember Visionary that well, but I seem to remember it was interesting, and people seem to rate it high. What else is there - The Armageddon Game? Time's Orphan? One of those then.

edit: or The Assignment! That one would actually be my choice, because my ideal DS9 would include a complete eradication of every trace of the Pah-wraiths plot. :)

I agree tomalak about Keiko O and those stupid Pah Wraiths

I've just finished re-watching DS9 from start to finish, and I must say that The Assignment was easily the episode where the Pah Wraith stuff was most tolerable. There were better episodes that featured the Pah Wraiths, but mostly they were good in spite of that aspect.

As for Time's Orphan, it's a pretty ill-conceived episode, but when adult Molly's about to go back to the past and she tells her parents she loves them, I must admit it gets me.

One thing I've noticed is that O'Brien didn't get that much great stuff to do in the later seasons of the show, especially Season 7 where he was pretty much Bashir's sidekick. I think that's a real shame, since Meaney's really terrific.

I'm one of those fans that love any episode with Colm Meany torture or otherwise. However, I will have to go with the consensus that "Times Orphan" is pretty bad and no actor could have made that story work:lol:

I wouldn't get rid of The Assignment, wasn't it episode where the Fire Caves and the Pah Wraiths were introduced? If so, it is important in that regard. It also introduced the chroniton radiation weakness for the Prophets that was later referenced in The Reckoning.

Nor would I get rid of Armageddon Game. That pretty much got the whole Bashir and O'Brien friendship going.

Hard Time, Visionary, Whispers, Tribunal all had pretty minimum impact on the rest of DS9 so they could be eliminated with not much of a problem. However, not a fan of Time's Orphan so that would be one I'd get rid of.

If I could replace it I think it would have been good to put in another DS9-Romulan episode between "Pale" and "Tears". Something to show some of the unease and uncertainty that must have existed between the Federation and Romulans during the very early months of their new alliance. Maybe put in Letant or introduce Cretak a bit earlier.

Hard Time, mainly because that whole experience didn't have any real effect on his character afterwards when it really should have.

"Time's Orphan" - no contest, if you ask me. I think it's easily one of DS9's worst episodes. I feel it comes off as pointless, 'cave' Molly is annoying and it just takes time away from really interesting stuff in S6. Given the choice, I'd watch "Profit and Lace" before I'd watch this one ...

You've just named the reason why the series would have benefited from eliminating that episode. :vulcan:

Then again, it really wouldn't matter, since they'd still introduce them some other way. :(

I found the Pah Wraiths interesting to a point because I wonder how long the "Prophets" tried to reason with them before booting them. I know its trying to be some angel/demon play but that's not really how it turned out for me.

I'd still ditch Time's Orphan tho.

Definitely not Hard Time. It's one of my favorite episodes in the series. It's not a good thing that O'Brien forgot about his experience after that episode but it's not that episode's problem. It was awful to watch in a good way for the first time.

I'll go with Tribunal. I don't usually like those "trial episodes". I actually liked Time's Orphan.

I liked Whispers, Hard Time, and Visionary, so don't lose those.

Time's Orphan or The Assignment would probably be my picks. Although we would miss O Brien getting to say 'Bollocks!' on national TV if you eliminated TO.

Hard Time is the ep where he has memories of being imprisoned for 20 years implanted in his mind right?

I didn't much like that episode. Poor O'Brien, he gets put through so much in DS9.
