If TOS Was Made Today...

The '66 Batman was fun...when I was seven years old and didn't know any better. Then I discovered Batman in the comics in the late '60s. Since then the '66 Batman makes me cringe in embarrassment.

Nah, Batman is hilarious. The deadpan humor is pitch-perfect for a story about a man dressed like a bat who fights villains dressed like clowns, penguins, etc. Still my favorite version of the Bat-universe.

ST09 may not have intended to be a comedy spoof, but the end result, well...

... was a rip-roaring blockbuster space adventure! :)

Wait, what was this thread about?
Whenever this subject comes up it becomes a matter of who can get in the last word.

We'll just have to agree that we disagree. I hate that fucking film with a passion that surprises even me sometimes.

Of course, I'm sure this won't be the last word...

I love 60's Batman. Yvonne Craig's outfit was awesome!

I liked Trek 09, flawed as it was, but I had a dream that I got together with a comic book artist and amended certain key scenes so that they made more sense and our version was really popular... :vulcan: I think my subconscious is trying to tell me something.

Mind you I also want to edit Star Wars III to remove any mention of Darth Vader, Luke, Leia, Padme's death and much of the last half hour of the movie...

... BUT I like it!

Okay, just kidding.

I liked it, not perfect, but it was good. Had its problems but so does everything in Trek.

Watching ST09 was akin to watching the Adam West version of Batman.

Nonsense. The 1966 Batman series was a comedy spoof. It was never meant to be taken seriously.

Seriously Warped, I would expect you of all people with your "TOS is the only Star Trek, Shatner is God" mindset to have understood that.

Have to disagree RandyS, the Adam West Batman was a pretty accurate picture of the Batman comics in the post-Wertham 50's through the early 60's. Also the success of the show pushed the comics into more camp. We didn't get a grim Batman until O'Neil and Adams' Detective Comics #395 in Jan '70.

As far as JJTrek, I have my problems with it, and I think the comedy was there for kids not geeks.
All in all I'm pretty content with it and think it's a good re-launch.

I agree that a TOS that was created from scratch today would be pretty unrecognizable. I think it would be lighter in tone than nuBSG, but having learned a lot from them, the main cast would certainly be larger, and the stories longer. I would hope that they would go the route of original TOS and get professional sci-fi writers (rather than TV writers) as writers and story editors.
I'd love to see Allen Dean Foster in the writing credits of XII, but I doubt it would happen.

I am just stating my opinion
The thing is the moment someone says something even a bit uncomplimentary about JJ's Trek you feel you have to come to defend it against all criticism. You like the film, fine, but try to stay on point of the subject at hand and keep the defense of nuTrek in the appropriate places.

And please, for the love of God, please learn how to use punctuation.

I'll tell you what, if Star Trek: The Original Series was made today, I probably wouldn't even like Star Trek like I do right now.

For you, yes. For those who are capable of adapting with the rest of the world and not clinging to an obsolete yesterday, no.
