If there was an S3 of Short Treks, what do you expect to see?

Even though there has not been any Short Treks in some time, and their is ambiguity as to whether the show will ever return, nonetheless, it's worth discussing as to what an S3 of Short Treks might entail. Note that this is not a wishlist (ie. see the DS9/VOY/ENT cast). This is what you expect from a S3 of Short Treks if it were ever greenlit. Please stick to the Kurtzman-era shows and cast - both in production and planned - and suggest anywhere from 4-6 episodes of what you expect them to be about. Base it on established threads

I'll start:

- USS Enterprise refit set between The Cage and “Will You Take My Hand?”
- A Section 31 prequel discussing Klingons; "those are Klingons?"
- Zora interacting with a Discovery crewmember
- Cerritos crew making references to the events in Short Treks in their downtime
- Mirror Tilly onboard the ISS Enterprise
- Kima and Lil - now older - watching a broadcast of the PIC S1 reporter discussing Commodore Oh

Certainly some Picard-era fare.

Something with Cirroc Lofton. Writer Jake doing writer Jake things. (Perhaps mourning the loss of Nog, if the writers really want to punch us in the face emotionally.)

Something else with Colm Meaney and Alexander Siddig. O'Brien and Bashir catch up over beers. Singing. Kayaking, maybe. That's 15 minutes of greatness if handled well.

The other episodes would ideally follow some 32nd-century side characters. Give us something with Vanessa Jackon's Audrey Willa character. "A day in the life" sort of thing. Maybe construct a Voyager-J set (if one hasn't already been made...!) and show us a handful of crewmembers over yonder.

I'd love a Strange New Worlds minisode in true 1960's style, shot on James Cawley's set tour and in authentic "Cage" uniforms. How awesome would that be?

A minisode about an immortal in the far future, someone who's used every established transporter cheat to become a technologically assisted proto-Q. Every teleport restores him to youthful vitality or whatever age he chooses; he can beam anywhere, anywhen; or duplicate himself; or skip timelines. With abilities like that, what happens to our humanity?
- USS Enterprise refit set between The Cage and “Will You Take My Hand?”
Not sure that would work, since the Short Trek about Spock's first day on the Enterprise is set long before "The Cage" and the Enterprise, uniforms etc are exactly as they are in Discovery season 2.

It is possible to have the refit occurring while an Andorian and Tellarite on the refit team are talking to each other, for example.

Expect or want?

It does say expect in both the title and OP, so its expect.

Then, using the first two seasons as examples, 4 - 6 episodes made up of prequel tie-ins to upcoming episodes, follow up tie-ins to recent episodes and an animated short, most or all of which I'll enjoy more than the entire season of Picard or Discovery.

For me, it's pretty simple-

1. An episode or two that fleshes out some of the DSC bridge crew better (a character story for Detmer, Owo, Bryce, etc)
2. An episode that shows Prime Lorca transitioning to the MU, and Mirror Lorca arriving in the PU

I went on the tour for the fourth time this past summer, and our tour guide said that CBS had reached out to them about filming some DSC stuff on those sets at one point. He didn't offer any additional insight or info, other than for some reason it did not work out. Interesting, though...!

One drawback to my April idea is the DISCO season 1-3 uniforms would be in use at the time of April's tour on the Enterprise. Not really of fan of those. OTOH maybe the Connies have always had "special" uniforms and we's see something like the DISCO E style. :)

STO already did this pretty effectively in what is considered by most players to be the game's single best mission -- mostly on the backs of Isaacs [and especially] Rekha Sharma's performances.

The writing is strong enough that it could make the leap to live action pretty easily -- with some tweaks, of course. And given the background and time-frame, Jimmy K would be a solid fit to stand in for the player character.

(*Sharma has most of the best stuff in the game. They created an original character who's basically Klingon James Bond and is the highlight of every scene she's in.)

Not necessarily. Both the USS Kelvin in ST ’09 and the Enterprise crew in The Cage wore gold, blue and white, but for different purposes. Gold was command for Enterprise (2254) and sciences & engineering for Kelvin (2233), while blue was command for Kelvin and sciences & engineering for Enterprise, and white for medical for both. And neither had pips to designate rank.

The ships that use the DIS uniforms all seem to be explicitly used for science vessels, and not for exploratory vessels (like the Enterprise) or survey vessels (like the Kelvin)

I see no reason for the DIS uniforms to be used in a Captain April Short Trek

Except every admiral shown wore them, also. Shenzhou was also an exploratory vessel.

Then leave the DIS uniforms for the admirals. The DIS uniforms could also be made to be synonymous with Section 31, to align with the early theories of Discovery being a Section 31 ship. We’ve already seen members of Section 31 who also happen to be a part of the admiralty wearing the uniform.

And maybe the USS Shenzhou was an explorer, but the other ships of its class (Walker-class) typically were not and the Shenzhou was the lone exception.

The Glenn crew wore the Disco uniforms so that would fit into your theory.
But the captain of the captain of the USS Gagarin was wearing the Disco uniform, also. Then again the crew aboard the Cabot were wearing the colorful uniforms. Its interesting from an in-world explanation perspective, though I am sure, in general, the costuming department is happy to be shut of the complicated 1st and 2nd season uniforms.

edit: add USS De Milo as a ship wearing the Disco uniforms.

I would be perfectly happy if those uniforms were never used again.

If there's an April Short Trek, they should just say the hell with it and use the TOS uniforms. Screw it. Pretend the old DSC uniforms never existed in the first place!

‪‪I would really enjoy seeing April onscreen and live action.

Me too.
