If Discovery is bust, I doubt that we will see a new Star Trek series again in the future. Because, the fans won't life forever. In just 10 years for now, the number of people who care about Star Trek will be reduced. The old will die, many will move on. And because there is no successful Star Trek that can get younger audiences attention, there won't be new hardcore fans that care about this franchise.
So in the future, when we grow old, and some of us die, Star Trek will be put into the sleeve forever. Unless this franchise can attract a new generation of audiences out there and spark their interest in this franchise.
So I think Star Trek has to be able to attract a new generation of fans. Because young people has different taste to the old fans like us. So in order to survive, Star Trek must evolve. They have become a show that can spark the interest of the young people.
As the older generation of fans, we can only support the franchise so they can survive today. Let the franchise get new fans - young people who can outlast our life and support this franchise into the future. And in order to do that, we have to let the franchise to evolve.
