If CBS did a post-DS9 Short Trek, what would you want to see?

You'd think the Star Trek powers that be would have realized by now that there are always new series and new opportunities for flashbacks, so they should be putting sets into storage, not destroying them.
Only if you ignore the economic realities that storing set pieces that big costs $$$ because you can't use the storage space for anything else. They built that full mockup of the Millennium Falcon for TESB, stored it for 3 years, pulled it out for a single (deleted) scene in ROTJ, and then chainsawed it, probably because no one wanted to pay to store it for a maybe-use years or decades later.

This may be too Babylon 5, but how about a whole new set of characters on an entirely new station called Deep Space Nine (or some other new name with Bajor now 15 years a Federation member), and everyone’s got their own lives and current crises. No mention of the originals save for a holophoto plaque commemorating the earlier station on the new promenade or ops.

Why?

First, it seems like a lot for a 15-20 minute short. One thing the Short Treks got right is they basically all just focused on one or two characters. There's not really time to do more than that. Not to mention constructing a whole new prominade, or ops, would be too damn expensive. Better to just have two people talking in mildly redressed Discovery set or outside somewhere.

Secondly, why bother calling it Deep Space Nine or having it near Bajor if you don't use something from the series? I don't have some pressing desire to check in on 24th century galactic politics, which could be handled with a throwaway line in the Picard show. I want to know what happened to the people.

Because IDGF about feasibility? News flash: this isn’t a production meeting, and there will likely never be any more DS9. Make up whatever you want....so long as it’s interesting in some regard lol

And you call it DS9 because when at the end you pan down to the plaque, it says something about why the place and everything going on is even there, about all our lives and why we’re here, and about what will come later. After all, the finale was called “What You Leave Behind.” As an opaque little short vignette, I think it’s bittersweet and touching in its way. Maybe too bittersweet, and that’s why it’s maybe more B5.

Finally, it’s also a bit more feasible than building all DS9 in such a way that pleases everyone, bringing back everyone all looking like their characters twenty years later, and coming up with a story twenty years later that works...as a fifteen-minute short.

(Also, did I mention, I’m still waiting on Ascendants closure.)

I think Alexander Siddig doing a Section 31 short is plausible. The S31 showrunners are Deep Space Nine fans, and people know Siddig from Game of Thrones.

Nana Visitor reprising Kira: a fun "what if" with little likelihood of happening.

What about an episode featuring Morn's latinum heist? No need to worry about aging actors or re-building sets. And it would only be loosely associated w/ DS9, which could satisfy fans and non-fans alike, and maybe guage interest.

Heck I'd watch a Siddig-starring S31 series before a Michelle Yeoh fronted one. Alexander Siddig's acting has improved 100x since DS9, and his character hasn't crossed any insane moral event horizons like committing genocide or eating the flesh of sentient humanoids.

I am not sure how Siddig's Dr. Bashir would work in a new series. Last we saw of Section 31, Bashir trapped and killed one of the leaders (or the leader?) of Section 31. Bashir was completely over his spycraft fantasy of working for or with Section 31 when he learned about their deliberate attempted genocide of the Founders. Would the series be about Bashir trying to destroy Section 31, or about Section 31 bringing Bashir up on charges for murdering Sloan? Either way, this isn't going to be a traditional Star Trek story, is it?

In the twenty years since the end of the Dominion War, Bajor has entered the Federation, the Cardassian Union was fractured (one half embracing change and peace, the other still steeped in their militaristic paranoia of old), and the Emissary hasn't returned. Kira Nerys has gone from a Militia Colonel to a Starfleet Captain before entering the political arena of her homeworld, now she has been appointed the Bajoran representative to the Federation Council and resides on Earth. Her former colleagues and friends have scattered across the galaxy, though she has a close link to her previous life, in the form or Starfleet Cadet Sarah Sisko.

When an elite rogue unit of the Cardassian old guard abduct Cadet Sisko and bomb the Bajoran embassy on Earth, Kira goes it alone to track down the culprits, save the child of the Emissary and uncover the reason behind the attack. Her mission puts her on the frontline of a plot to spark another quadrant-wide war, and is the only person who can save millions on both sides.

It would be great if there could be some throwaway dialogue in the Picard show mentioning his possible involvement in Bajor joining the Federation. I don't see how you could catch up with DS9 in a "short" anything.

I agree with other posts here that it would be interesting to see Garak and Cardasia, twenty years later. Can Garak meet up with Bashir?

I’d also like to see Bashir reunite with OBrian, like a bit of reunion.

Then again, as has been posted here, it might be too ambitious, or expensive, for a Short Trek.

I'd love a series of them. One as an overview of what's happened since DS9 ended. And posters above have had great ideas for others, a Bashir Section 31 one, Garak, maybe one about Odo & his Dominion. There's a lot there, they could do several. Same goes for Voyager. I'd really welcome this if it came to pass.

Just Julian and Miles at the Alamo or rowing or whatever in the holodeck. It might be a show just for me, but I would watch the heck out of it, and no need for sets that would inevitably share the DSC aesthetic. (Gosh I hope the Picard show doesn't look at all like DSC, not because it's a bad look, but because I'd want the long separation in time to have some visual impact.)

I’d love to see Bashir and OBrian reunite. I’d love to see Tom Riker get out of prison after the war.

The thing is, will there be any more Short Treks? I’ve been looking at a lot of videos on YouTube about the money and corporate politics behind CBS All Access. Some times it’s a bummer, but everything points to the Service looking to have new Trek on all year ‘round.

DS9 returned in any way would make me happy. I’m hoping that it’s remembered and is treated with the respect that it deserves.
