If All of Trek IS Rebooted

and there comes something like ST: Deep Space Nine, will you watch/support it or boycott b/c its a reboot?

Right now, I'd watch reboot's of Spock's Brain and Wesley Crusher series.

I long for more Trek, esp something remotely kin to our DS9

For me, even if Trek is 100% rebooted one day and everything--including the Abramsverse--is tossed out and wheel is reinvented, it doesn't change the fact that DS9 happened. That's a fait accompli.

A total reboot would simply be a new beginning for everything--or rather a new universe--and I'd judge it on its own merits and wouldn't care if it adhere to anything that came before.

I agree. A reboot doesn't negate what happened in the original work. I'll always view reboots as separate continuities, not as "the new canon" or anything like that.

I'd watch a rebooted DS9 if it wasn't crap. But I doubt that's the route Trek will take if it ever comes back to TV - it's much more likely for a new Trek series to dwell on completely new stories.

All the rebooting is nonsense. Cant wait til it gets rebooted again in 40 more years when Nero ship goes back in time again! Arf Arf Arf!

Whatever happens from this movie on happens ok. Ok then. All the other stuff happened then he went back in time, eveything makes sense, its annoying as hell but not a big deal. It's only a TV show which is neat and all. SO worrying about what is gonna happen with a rebooted Deep Space in 100 years from present time doesnt make sense to me really.

Yeah but what a good deal for those who want to write new fanfic...

Hmm... Will Admiral Janeway go back in time in the new timeline? Did Nero attract the attention of the Borg on Romulus by bringing Future Borg technology to the pre-TOS era, and is Romulus now a Borg colony? Did that in return incite the Remans to ally with the Klingons?

Oh boy oh boy oh boy...

I was thinking the other day after seeing the Spidey Does High School trailer "what would I do if they made a new Trek series and it was all set in first year academy and they were basically kids? And it was aimed at teens and about adolescents adjusting to the academy and romances and shit?"

And my answer to myself was I WILL WATCH ANYTHING that is Trek. Anything. I like the Trek universe and I want to experience it again, doesn't matter whose eyes it's through.

TNG was a "reboot" in 1986. We'd all watch it if it had compelling story lines, good acting and made us "wonder."

But TNG was in the future. Enterprise and The Movie are in the past. Personally, I reject Enterprise as canon (sorry) but I like The Movie.

Now, as for DS9, I have no hope. Apparently even my scifi channel doesn't want to show it anymore (along with, yes, Enterprise, but I won't weep on that one)

What ENT did to the continuity w/Balance of Terror should have been a crime. Totally F-up the relationship w/the Romulans

I get that the writers of Star Trek XI didn't want to be accused of wiping out forty years of Star Trek history, even though their storyline doesn't explain why the characters look different, why Earth looks different and why the starships look different.

I am sick to death of reboots - Spider Man was only 3 films in, Superman with Brandon Routh was great and they've already announced the Batman reboot BEFORE the third film is released ! It's pathetic - we seem to be on a ten year turnaround, like we can't remember the previous decade. STOP IT NOW !

JJ did it cleverly - it didn't invalidate what went before, so I'm cool with that, but you couldn't reboot Trek entirely, and you certainly couldn't improve on DS9...

I agree completely. DS9 should not be rebooted ever, just continued. Besides, in all DS9 things, the Prophets are running the show, and I doubt that they are in any way concerned with what happened in 2233. They wanted Sisko in the original timeline, they would still want him in the reboot timeline. So I believe that the Occupation would still happen, and therefore the Maquis, and therefore Voyager.

Abrams did reboot everything.

Right now in 22whatever, Old Spock should be calculating about whether to send the diplomatic corps, or a tactical team to the Founders homeworld.

Of course Sisko negotiated for the Wormhole aliens to use their house as a throughway, and Spock would have to do the same, even if they're not expecting him and the surprise gives them a panic attack because parallel times for them is like linear time for us.

Why on Earth would anyone even consider boycotting anything just because it's a reboot? Reboots aren't sacrilege by definition. All that matters is the execution. If the new version is good, you watch it. If it sucks, you don't.

It's that simple.

It's not like a reboot makes the earlier version go away. You can always watch and enjoy both versions.

I was behind on my reading with some of my DC comics by several months, hell I don't think I'd touched batman in the last 2 years, so I had all these books that i owned which i hadn't read, because i was waiting for a clash of rainy day and whimsy...

The new 52.

A complete universal reboot.

All that money I had spent, and all that time i still had to at some point expend to read books that by wits end were much ado about nothing because they bore zero relation to the ongoing concerns of the DCU.

Totally blindsided.

I found myself in a similar boat, having let six months worth of DC Comics pile up, only to hear that the DCU had rebooted itself in the meantime. (A shame. I miss SECRET SIX.)

But, just to play devil's advocate, does it really matter? If the stories are still enjoyable, if the dialogue is still clever, the action still exciting, and the art still eye-catching, does it matter if they're still "canon" or not?

A fun Batman comic is still presumedly a fun Batman comic, even if it never gets referenced again.

I like to remember the days when all comics were written by 10 guys who ate lunch together every day and talked about what they were doing and how the comics code authority was hemming in their disgustingness.

The new climate is forcing me to build yet more walls in my mindspace to keep my thoughts even more stringently segregated.
