I'm aware it had been done in a comic before but I haven't read that yet.

When has it been done before in the comics? I don't recall that.

"Tiberia" sounds awfully contrived gender-bended. Couldn't they have picked something more sensible yet clearly Roman? Seriously, who would call their child "Tiberia"?

Actually most Roman female names were just feminized forms of male names, generally those of their fathers. Nero's wife Livia Drusilla was the daughter of Marcus Livius Drusus Claudianus. Valeria Messalina, the namesake of my Valeria Williams character from Rise of the Federation, was the daughter of Marcus Valerius Messalla Barbatus. And so on. Tiberia is a valid feminine praenomen, except that praenomina for women fell out of use by the first century CE.

Is that stated? I don't recall it from the movie, and the comics aren't canonical. The Klingons had the Narada in their custody for 25 years; it's hard to believe they didn't get at least something from the ship's computers.

Ah, but not even that is canon. The Klingons taking Narada and sending Nero and his crew to Rura Penthe was deleted from the movie. As far as the movie is concerned, they all just floated in space for 25 years doing nothing at all.

^Just because something isn't canonical doesn't mean we're required to ignore it. It just means we're free to disregard it if it doesn't make sense. And Nero and his ship falling into Klingon hands for 25 years makes more sense than floating in space doing nothing for 25 years.

I thought Issue #26 was just okay. I wish the had drew and written this Kor to look and 'sound' a bit more like John Colicos. I know the artist can do it because they did such a good job with the likenesses of everyone else, especially Alice Eve and Chris Pine.

I think they had used another species besides Ferengi for an insult. First contact with them came much later. Granted that doesn't have to mean they were never heard of until first contact, but I didn't think that was a necessary reference or fan service or what have you. Denebian slime devil could've fit in just as well.

1) Given the nature of the Abramsverse, they don't have to make Kor in the likeness of John Colicos.

2) IDW may not even have the rights to use Colicos's likeness. Keep in mind, IDW has to pay royalties to the actors whose characters are featured in their comics. Half the time a character looks completely different in a comic than they do in the show/movie it's based on it's because the comic publisher doesn't have the rights to use the actor's likeness.

I just figured they spent the 25 years rebuilding the huge chunk of the ship that got vaporized and building up a cache of missiles that Nero burned through in like a day because he kept getting in fights. All the other explanations made everyone seem stupid.

All of Me one-shot from Wildstorm, written by Tony Isabella and Bob Ingersoll, has a number of "versions" of various characters, supposedly retrieved from parallel universes, including Captain Jane T. Kirk of the Foundation Starship Enterprise.

The WNMHGB adaptation did use an image of Gary Lockwood on the cover of the second part, though the Gary Mitchell character in the comic didn't really resemble him.

Some, yes. Their Commissioner Ferris in the "Galileo Seven" adaptation looked exactly like John Crawford did in the episode, except in the first page or two where he appeared. And I think Zahra from "Operation: Annihilate" was modeled on Maurishka Talliaferro, although more so in "Vulcan's Vengeance" than in the actual O:A adaptation (where she was drawn with much shorter hair).

I thought about they might not have his likeness, but they did at one point have his likeness for the Klingon Blood Will Tell series. And even if they couldn't get his likeness, that would not stop them from having him talk and act more like Kor (preferably from "Errand of Mercy") than a generic brutish Klingon captain. What's the point of using the name Kor if they make him so different from the original Kor? Oops, new Khan. Never mind.

Another thing, I wish it had been Decius in command of the Romulan force instead of being an aide, since they are name dropping in this issue.

Just read the latest issue and I think it demonstrates why good stories need to be told in more than 2 issues. Ok, the plot is fairly standard fare but they make good use of the supporting cast and build on relationships from both the movies and earlier comics. The plot has a clear direction but they haven't needed to tie up the conclusion with a convenient neat bow. The security guards, Zahra and Kai even get a bit of development, although it's unfortunate that the artist seems have mistaken Zahra for Rand. Fair enough if she wants to dye her hair but she seems to have changed her entire ethnicity... I hope it's just a mistake and not a permanent change. The last thing a TOS era needs is another blonde Caucasian.

I'm liking the interplay between the four factions and it's nice to see Khan's presence still being felt, possibly paving the way for his escape in the future?

I give them a big thumbs up for evening up the spread of men and women among the Federation characters (and Zahra even saves the day) but the Klingon and Romulan imagery is still too male-centric. Still, they've come a long way since the early issues. I'd love to see the female Romulan Commander get some air time but then I never did get T'Pau did I?

Such illogic from a Trek forum. I'm not complaining about a lack of women because I want more women; I'm complaining about a lack women because I want equality.

I'd just switch to complaining that there were not enough men.

It would be an interesting experiment though.

I haven't read the comics myself yet, but from the comments I've on here read on here, they've been making those kinds of mistakes off and on throughout the whole series.

Star Trek has seven main canonical characters, one of whom is female. Unless you made every guest character female, you'll still have a problem giving enough speaking (and non speaking) parts to female characters to get "equality".

True but in the early issues they were using almost no guest women either, they edited out one of the three recurring women from TOS (fingers crossed for her return though), plus all the women from WNMHGB, most notably Dr Denher. What we have now is a definite improvement in terms of equality in the Federation camp, with the exception of disappointing T'Pau's absence. If they keep making improvements at the same pace across all the races, I will be able to stop moaning by June.

The main cast is predominantly (white) male, so true equality cannot be achieved. But accepting this limitation still allows to judge the equality the rest of the plots and characters to be measured by our 21st century standard. The new ST is derived from a 1960s series but still produced in the 2010s. It cannot evade contemporary ideals of society, Imho.

It's nice to see that the comic features two semi-regular female security guards and Zahra even got some character development in the latest issue. I'm still hoping they give Rand the same treatment but more generally, it's nice to see them elaborating on the wider cast a bit more. I'm enjoying the Sulu sub-plot too. Although I hope they keep his sister around for more than one story, it's entirely possible that she's a Section 31 plant.
