They made TNG movies, and there was a very loud part of the fandom back in the day that insisted TNG wasn't true Trek.
They're now saying the same thing about Kurtzman Trek

And that tiny subset of a subset of Trek fandom are never the target audience. There's a certain section of the fandom that says, "Kelvin Trek doesn't count as Trek."
It's not my decision.
What about someone who's new to the franchise and who hasn't seen ST '09?
With all due respect that is shortchanging the audience something fierce. The audience wants entertainment first and foremost. Say what you want about Abrams, but his approach to 09 was the approach that I think is a better fit: make a movie that people will want to see. Not for the small segment of the population who will nitpick and analyze it to death, but people who are fans of films, and entertainment and adventure and characters. When they're watching a Star Trek film, they shouldn't have to ask "What timeline is this? Does this count towards anything?"
the audience is typically a little smarter than people guess.
My mom hates science fiction like Star Trek with a passion, yet ended up sitting in on watching ST 2009 with my dad and I for a bit, and playing on her tablet. She followed it fine.Way smarter.
Like I said above, my 75 year old mother absolutely adored Beyond. She grew up with TOS, never bothered with any of the others (she’s in it for Kirk, Spock etc.) and she literally gave the movie a standing ovation with tears in her eyes in the theatre.
She wasn’t asking if it counts or what universe it’s supposed to be in. She was just thrilled by the ride and the opportunity to see characters from her youth brought back so vividly.
99% of the audience don’t bring the baggage to a movie theatre that the hardcore fan does. For my mother, the characters, story, music and visuals created a huge emotional reaction. She still asks when another one is being made.
Sadly, she’ll most likely pass away before it happens at the rate it’s all going.
Who's to say the ship and crew will even exist in this timeline? Tuvok's parents might have died when Vulcan imploded.Of all of Trek shows, I feel that Voyager had the most potential in its premise that was squandered. I still like Voyager, but I think its execution could have been better. I was thinking, what about a Voyager series of films set in Kelvin world, with all new cast? No need to stick to any previously established continuity, just take what was in the premise of Voyager, and create something new and awesome. More so than DS9 or TNG, I think VOY would translate well into a new Kelvin verse film series. Anyone else like to see something like that?
You might want to take a few minutes to actually read the thread before posting. That topic has already been addressed.Who's to say the ship and crew will even exist in this timeline? Tuvok's parents might have died when Vulcan imploded.
