I want to see the Andorian of discovery!

I don't see the disappointment. STD is a show created by Americans, written by Americans, and produced and filmed in America. International audience are smart enough to understand the realities and limitations of television productions.
The USA is diverse enough and the budget is big enough to have actors from other nationalites reflecting Earth's diversity. If they can get an Englishman to come over and play a Frenchman in 1987, they can do a lot more in 2017 on a bigger budget.

Andorians have been re-imagined for this series:

You are completely wrong with the bolded statement, Discovery is produced and filmed in Toronto, a city in Canada. You fail your argument.

To be fair, the argument started with the question "what is the in universe reason for a so called galactic military/exploratory force dominated by North Americans during the DISCO/TOS era?"

Of course Starfleet being headquartered there would be a reason - except "North American" demographics shouldn't be mostly white by then either. In fact a good number should be blue. :bolian:

Someone else already explained a few days ago that Discovery is an US-American show and therefore only needs to reflect that the diversity in the US. Creator can't win in the real of diversity.
It's for the best if any given show reflects the diversity the creators want it to reflect and ignore the very well-meaning comments from the sidelines.

Well, the people who are of a mixed Greek-Anglo-Malaysian-Chinese heritage had their representative character...
....but then the show killed her off.

Why, am I glad that I didn't write "US".
So, you're saying that because it was filmed in America (the continents, I guess) It should star Americans (as in from all over the continents) and not only US-Americans? Because surely you didn't mean that it should mostly star US-Americans since bringing up that it was filmed on the same continent as the United States would have nothing to do with that. Do you want to imply that the cast should consist of mostly actors from all over the American continents as the show was filmed in another country than the idea originated in? Or maybe just mostly those two?

I don't give a frog's fat ass where the show is filmed. Find some good actors - no matter where they're from.

I mean, this IS a Trek series after all. Where's Vaughn Armstrong? :scream: :)

That said, it's not a stretch to see a lot of Canadian actors pop up on the show (things like Dark Matter and The Expanse have been, shall we say, very well represented) simply because it's cheaper to hire them. That's why DSC, along with half the other shows and films out there, is being filmed in Toronto* - because filming in Canada is just cheaper.

* if we ever see any Earth scenes, I bet they just take a camera and go up and down Yonge Street. It's stood in for dozens, if not hundreds, of other cities!

They allegedly don't want Jeffrey Combs on the show because they want a "clean break" and don't want actors from other Treks. Sadly, this would likely apply to Vaughn Armstrong, too.

In order of the questions: No. No. I don't care.
To be perfectly blunt, I don't give a rat's ass about the identity, race, ethnic background, disability-status, or sexual orientation of the actor or actress playing a character. I take a work of fiction as it is presented to me and usually do not question the motives of the creators one way or another unless there is something there that tingles my Spidey-senses.

You said America. Canada is not America.

It was just a joke to deflect from my not knowing STD is filmed in Canada.

Then it should stick to North American television audiences. TOS made a better effort on a smaller budget, even if the accents were faked.
