I think the most creative product placement had to be the extra bridge crew members. They didn't have to put up a sign saying Geico with the Geico Cavemen standing around. :thumbsup: Pretty funny when they were chosen as the landing party for Allstate IV.

You know, a lot of it sucked. But you can't deny there was some good in it... although the Horta/Slave Girl/Gorn scene reminded me far too much of Vulcan Neuropressure for me to enjoy it. On its own, it's an okay film.
But, given how far they bent over backwards to keep the TNG and DS9 canons intact, and even threw in a hat tip to that episode where Tom Paris broke Warp 10... why in Kobol's name did they decide it was a good idea to completely invalidate the events of "The Interregnum?" That was a great show, and now I'm going to have to accept its decanonization, because it just doesn't fit with the new movie. I find this especially annoying, because it's obvious that JJ and Co. have seen "Interregnum"--the Hoshi vs. Romulan Bounty Hunter scene look overly familiar to anyone else here, people?

Doing the accademy scenes as an anime style cartoon was interesting, but then topping that by using animated Lego for the alternate universe part was really wierd!
I sort-of liked the bits with the Orion slave girls - who'd have thought their skin colour would change when Dilithium was present? But why was it only certain parts of their bodies? Come to think about it, maybe that did make the escape from the slavers planetoid a little gratuitous...

This film is a perfect example of why canon should be dropped because it is strangling the franchise:
First off, they were forced to make the Oriens green rather than being free to make them look like sharks and calling them "Zornian Jewel Creatures From the Fifth Dimension".
Second, Since we never saw Earth cities in TOS, it is canon that they don't exist and forced them to use SanFransisco for every Earth scene. Damn canon!
Third, They were FORCED to give the Klingons head-ridges rather than giving them horns and calling them "Raptullians from Galaxy 33-A, like they wanted to. Damn Canon! It Restricts creativity!
Fourth, They were forced to mention all events that took place before 2266 in Star Trek. That's what evil canon does, it FORCES the writers to mention every detail ever, relevant or not!
Fifth, we didn't see any new locations on the Enterprise because canon is evil.

Oh a positive though was the fact that all female characters were wearing black PVC mini-skirts and with the coloured PVC halters with the knee high boots.

I really think they went too far having Bakula show up as "Chef", and crowbaring in Picardo and Spiner as the zany mad scientists who were trying to run the scams on the Ferengi just irritated me, especially the arias that they'd break into while talking about "holograms" and "androids".

I will admit to one part I liked: the slapstick routine where Chekov gets "wessel" and "wrestle" confused and ends up in a mud pit with Uhura. Hi-larious!
I see your point, but it would have been better with Rand in there instead of Chekov 
^ You know, I was thinking the same thing, only she would be in there with the two of them. Because y'know, you still need Chekov for the wacky comedic effect.

I thought that the Rnd/Uhura lesbian scene was totally inappropriate. I mean neither one are lesbians! I just didn't get that. Or was this a result of James Kirk getting resurrected by Spock and Saavik's grandson's time traveling?
I thought the use of a mobile phone as a communicator was a real show of how tight-fisted the studio was being on the movie's budget.

Yeah, they made it pretty obvious too. Especially when Kirk's rang with the Nokia tune.

Then there was that ridiculous scene with the dune buggy. A starship captain driving a jeep in the desert. Where did they ever get the idea that was plausible?
Besides, everyone knows Kirk doesn't know how to drive a standard--didn't these guys watch "A Piece of the Action"?
