It came on last night, a little after dinner time. I put it on, and then my wife asked me to go out and fix the garden hose valve.
Guess what I did with great enthusiasm!
(hey, we should come up with "Things I Did Instead of Watching Nemesis on AMC" thread!)
I prefer Battlefield Earth to Nemesis.
They were talking about you on the TV last night.

Say what you want about it atleast it was a Star Trek movie, it had the feel to it that XI is missing.
What feel would that be?
Z: We’re forced to live with it as a finale of a series that many of us grew to love. If that’s it, make us be glad its over. Don’t tease us with open-ended plot holes. Riker on the Titan? Never gonna see it. B4 becoming Data…never gonna see it. Enterprise E? Never gonna see that ever again because half the crew is gone. Yet another Picard and Data wank-fest that left a bad taste in everyone’s mouth.
Talk about an endangered species...
Seriously, I liked Nemesis--as an average television episode, not as a movie.
Everyone hated the dune buggy scene, but let me ask you how is that different from the sport car fell off the edgy scene?

The problem with the dune buggy scene was that the director wanted to add in something "cool" fill with action to attract the action junkies. The whole scene just didnt jive with the rest of the tone of the movie. Now if rest of the nemesis would be packed with action/shooting/driving scene all of those that love Star Trek XI would of loved nemesis.
If you want to compare Shinzon vs Nero, atleast shinzon had a motivation. Growing up in the shadow of piccard, resenting the fact that piccard had a better life than he did. In some ways shinzon is a very conflicted character, he wanted to make a better life for his people, and he used methods that piccard would never do. This is in large due to a need to distingush himself from piccard.
But now what's Nero's motoivation? "uh I'm Nero, i'm crazy, I want revenage!!!!" The who plot of nero wanted revenage against spock and all federation doesnt make sense. Its like someone blamming a firefighter, who risked their life to save his family but failed. Would it better for spock to die in the attempt to save romulas? Would that make Nero less crazy?
Especially when nero got into the pass he have a chance to safe his wife and all romulas, but that doesnt seem to be his concern. He is fixated on making the firefighter pay for even attempting to save his family.![]()

I think the Corvette scene was the weakest part of the movie IMO, it should have been a Mustang lol (kiddingEveryone hated the dune buggy scene, but let me ask you how is that different from the sport car fell off the edgy scene?). Anyway even so, the Corvette is a known American Icon that almost everyone will instantly recognize. The go kart in Nemesis? Not so much. Also, the Corvette was being driven by a little punk kid. The Argo by an old man who SHOULD have known better.

hmmm there does seem to be alot of iconic imagery in this new movie isnt it?
Is that why so many people can relate to this movie?
The blatant use of iconic imagery and cultural references?
Is that why Scary Movie is so successful? *

It violated the Prime Directive? You know - no contact with pre-warp societies?
When was Picard's DNA stolen (in film reason - not retconn'ed book explanation)? It was the Romulans who created Shinzon then discarded him -but he goes after the Federation? THe DNA was taken when Picard was just another SF captain - wht was he targetted? If you want to compare Shinzon vs Nero, atleast shinzon had a motivation. So spock failed on purpose, he could of easily given this information to the romlans thus avoiding the distruction of his planet. And given his advance mining ship from the future. He could of given it to the romulans and having them conquer the federation. Going after someone who failed is ludicrous at best.He sees the Federation as failing (possibly on purpose given the trust level between the Romulans and Federation) to live up to their promise of saving his homeworld and loved ones. Spock is the face of the Federation to Nero. I'm not seeing the problem with Nero's motivation. But now what's Nero's motoivation? "uh I'm Nero, i'm crazy, I want revenage!!!!" Um, he's lost his mind? He's working with his own disordered "logic" What don't you get? Plus they have no control over where they "arrive". How is he going to save his family, let alone that they are now in an alternate reality how many years earlier in which his wife and child may not even exist yet?Especially when nero got into the pass he have a chance to safe his wife and all romulas, but that doesnt seem to be his concern. He is fixated on making the firefighter pay for even attempting to save his family.![]()
Shinzon had a motivation?News to me. Huh, around these parts that always seems to be the largest gripe with NEM its bad guys totally misplaced motives. Picard was a total none factor in Shinzon's life its not as if he was the big brother who got all the attention and it caused old Shin to resent him.
I buy Nero's motives far easier then Shinzon's.
Sharr
I'm not American. For logic re: the car "icon" to work for me, it would have to be an FJ Holden, not a Corvette. Burning across the desert and pranging into a gum tree or crashing off the Three Sisters' lookout, or going over The Gap.
What other iconic imagery (for non-Americans)?

Picard was Shinzon's shadow, shinzon was created because of picard. His always been told that is a copy, he doesnt have any idenitity of his own. Picard is human, shinzon is human, romulans hated humans more than remans.
Picard had all the glory, the fame, the luxery and a comfortable life.
While Shinzon had to work his way out of a mining camp.
Well if you dont see why shinzon had a resentment for picard then i would suggest a bit of light reading on psychology
I buy Nero's motives far easier then Shinzon's.

Well that is because crazy and lunatic is so much easyer to explain to the general public than actually analyzing the psychology of humans.![]()

Um, I have grad quals in Counselling and I'm completing grad dip in Psychological Studies right now with a view to doing a Master's - is that enough light Psychology background to make a judgement call justifying how I feel? And I really don;t care if you agree or not - you're free to have you're own opinion. In my opinion, Shinzon's anger is misdirected at best.
