I like Ezri, but...

The Weyouns don't count. Vorta and Jem Hadar apparently don't do romance or sex at all.
So you say! ;)

Anyway, despite the fact that I was kidding (and that there are non-Weyoun recurring characters who didn't do romance), Weyoun was quite interested in interspecies mating rituals. In another universe there was an episode where he explored his fascination first-hand, a la a Data episode.

I suspect Weyoun's interest was in using flirtation or attraction as a tactic for manipulation or negotiation.

Much like Kilana tried and failed to do with Sisko in "The Ship".

Knowing the Changelings, they may well have manipulated the Vorta makeup to allow them to receive a pleasure response from some behaviors that (1) connect in no way to reproduction and (2) advance the interests of the Dominion. The Vorta were not carbon copies of one another, and Weyoun and Kilana had a personality that was distinct from Yelgrun, the former being more diplomats than military leaders.

I didn't like the producers' decision to shack Ezri up with Bashir; I thought it felt forced and not natural. Can't a character on DS9 be independent and career driven without the romance drivel?
I have to agree here.

I've never understoood the habit of constantly pairing off characters, especially when there is no chemistry between them.

Not to mention that Star Trek writers have problems with writing about and coming up with relationships.

But I don't find the Bashir-Ezri relationship that bad. There have been far worse examples in the different Star Trek series.

Ezri didn't really get a chance to use her role as a counselor, either. ST Writers were never super comfortable with it, when they couldn't rely on alien mysticism (ship being shot to pieces, "I sense hostility, captain.", says Troi), when there would have been a great need of her expertise on DS9 in the middle of a war and post-occupation. I get they didn't want to go that somewhat unexciting route, but then why bother making her a counselor to begin with?

Ezri was able to help Garak and that even made a good episode. But, yes, aside from that she didn't use her counseling skills much.

Mirror Ezri was a fine slice.

Yes, it reminds me of Sandy's transformation in Grease, from mild-mannered nice girl to smoking, forward, leather jacket wearing female greaser. (Except Sandy was still heterosexual.)

Depends on how one defines counseling skills, which can include attentive listening, diagnosis, interviewing, assessing, and exploring alternatives.

Plus, the whole wartime thing.

I just finished rewatching "Dax". And the last words said to Jadzia by Enina have a sad irony now. :(

EDIT: Rewatched "Invasive Procedures", now I'm on "Playing God". Seeing a candidate who tried desperately and failed, as well as a dubious candidate taken aback by Jadzia's signature style, it's easy to understand the thought and care that goes into Joining a host and a symbiont. Ezri never even started the program, so getting deluged with eight new personalities... I reiterate that it was almost criminal that a character with that kind of potential had only about half a season to develop, before the final war arc took over.

Quite impressive!

Although she doesn't have that slight lisp that Nicole tries to suppress when playing Ezri. ;)

...And she pronounces it "Lay-la" instead of "Lee-la" I think? Those are just the mega-nitpicks of a BBS nerd though. She captures the voice very well. :)

Edit. I checked out her speaking as herself. Her regular voice and speaking style is not terribly far from Nicole's already.

Do you know that the phrase "quite impressive" is the best positive comment the legendary guitar player Ritchie Blackmore can come up with when it comes to a new song written by someone else than himself?

When it comes to "Lay-la", she must have been thinking of the Eric Clapton song!

Anyway, good performance of this girl. :techman:

I didn't hate Ezri as I was pretty neutral on her even though she replaced one of my fave DS9 characters. I think they tried to squeeze way too much of her in the last season.

I didn't like that Farrell left and that Jadzia was killed off. They should have let her leave for another mission, maybe on the Enterprise or so and Ezri could have been her sister instead of a new Dax host.

It has been some times when a favorite character have left a series I like and I have disliked the replacement.

But when it came to Ezri, I actually liked her.

It may have something to do with the fact that I watched the whole series many years after it ended. Since I knew that I was going to watch the whole series some time, I trid to avoid too much information about it in order not to spoil the excitement when I finally would have the chance to watch it. But it was inevitable that I stumbled over pieces of information on different forums.

So I had some basic information about the Dominion War, Worf joining the crew, Jadzia's death and the Pah-Wraits showing up at the end of the series. Therefore it was no surprise for me when Jadzia was killed off.

So when it come to Ezri, I liked her from the start.

The biggest problem with Ezri was that she was brought in to the last season of the series. That may have been the reason why there was so much focus on her in the last season.

By the way, I really, rteally like your avatar.

If I had had the opportunity to watch more than only one season of DS9 in 1997, I would probably have had a similar avatar and called myself "Garak" or something similar instead of Lynx.

It wasn't the nicest of circumstances and the way Terry was treated was poor. However, what we did get was a season of Ezri (and what a wonderful gift of a character as well as actor) and what we saw was the new host being immersed into reacquainting herself with the 20 friends on the station; something we had never seen before. I also like the spin on how she wasn't coping (which could have been explored for longer) which was a new slant on Trilliness too.
