I Hate Zippy!

Nardpuncher

Rear Admiral
That Zippy the Pinhead comic just doesn't make sense. Oh, I know it's not supposed to, in a post-modern sense, but what I mean is is that the jig was up for this pretentious crap in about 1972. The guy who writes it even has the guts to make a "How to appreciate Zippy" strip about once a year. Ugh!

Ive seen that before, Zippy the pinhead is the stupidest strip I have ever read. The jokes make sense but just aren't funny.

It's a dumb comic and often gloss over it for much finer comics like "Get Fuzzy", "Zits", "Baby Blues", etc.

But Zippy is fine reading compared to the likes of "Brevity", "Mark Trail" and "Mary Worth."

Nothing beats "Opus" for sheer awesome though.

Never heard of those comics, I prefer B.C.

I'm not surprised you've likely not heard of Zits, Baby Blues and maybe even Brevity. But Get Fuzzy, and especially Mark Trail and Mary Worth should all be very well known. The latter two have been around for decades.

But then there's The Family Circus. Sitting there in the corner of your two-page comic spread just waiting to suck.

(Points to whomever picks up where that last quote is from.)

When I saw the title of the thread, I thought it was going to be a rant against the mascot of the US Postal Service:

I am familiar with the comic strip you're talking about, though. It's one of those things that's not as clever as it thinks it is.

"Oh look, Zippy is having a conversation with some statue/monument of old Americana! How quaint, thought-provoking and esoteric! This is the best strip ever!"

Or not.

Confusing snail mail with 'zippy'?

There's two kinds of people, those who get Zippy and those who don't. I don't. I've tried and just don't care.

And Ziggy has gotten too preachy, too!

Ah Zippy, you and Americana.

I seriously don't understand this strip.

And I'm well aware of the "understanding Zippy" part of the main website. Don't care.

If you need to explain your work to someone you've failed.

You're right.

All you need to do to make a Zippy srtip is to make inane pop culture as well as more respected, intellectual references and it somehow is supposed to become witty, ironic and droll. Really it's just pretentious and the guy who makes it is stuck in the early 70s. There's nothing to explain, but the people that like it think it's deep and that if you don't, then you don't get it.
Kind of like the people that read too much into the Matrix.
