I Hate Zippy!

I seriously don't understand this strip.
What's not to understand? Manny, Moe and Jack are weird. Don't they have the Pep Boys stores where you are? The Dickies even wrote a song about them.

I know who the Pep Boys are but I don't understand Zippy constantly talking to Americana icons. Other than trying to come across and post-modern douchebag with a hard-on for Americana.

I guess you don't get Zippy, after all. He's a pinhead; a simpleton; he's easily fascinated by random objects. It's surrealistic a lot of the time (which isn't postmodern, by the way -- surrealism predates postmodernism); it isn't necessarily supposed to make sense or be funny in the setup-punchline-yok dumbass joke sense.

He's also, however, inspired in part by a real-life sideshow freak (and a real-life hero, in one instance.) More Americana, I suppose. You probably won't care about that, either.

You see, it doesn't matter if he's supposed to be surreal, post-modern, post-post modern, deconstructuralist or whatever...at the end of the day, the thing is pretentious. Damn...I hate even having to use that word three times.

Nothing beats "Opus" for sheer awesome though.

And that one's ending soon. :(

Is it really? I know they've had a plot thread for a while with Opus talking to his "Creator" and his Creator talking to Opus that he's going to end things soon, but I was hoping that the Creator would change his mind.

Ohhh Opus. :(

I've just assumed it's ending from the last few strips.

Here's today's.

But if you're up for some nostalgia, GoComics is recycling Bloom County every day.
