I don't quite like Abrams' attitude

I'm telling all of you that you haven't seen Empire until you have seen Riff Tracks commentary of the film, it is awesomely funny!:bolian:

Trek was so horrible, it should have been rebooted in 1967. That would have spared us of all the lameness we had to endure until JJ Abrams came and saved us all. Now we have a cool and fresh Star Trek back, and our lives have meaning again.

Ya. The Nicholas Meyer/Harve Bennet collaboration on Star Trek II was a complete lame of a mess. Trek09's philosophy was right on the dollar in it's 'development through bad-tempered quarrels and loud negative commenting' that results in physical fighting and shouting.

Oh, we truly have been saved.

It must have been real shitty being a Trekker then, huh?

Yes. Yes it was. I really thought Trek was over for me. I could have never guessed that a reboot would bring me back, but here I am.

Yes, thanks to Trek XI I now have space on my shelves again because I threw away all of my old Trek DVDs, books and assorted memorabilia.

I can't wait until the next reboot and then I can do it again.

I think Empire Strikes Back is the best SW film ever why do you not like that it has everything.

i didnt say i didnt like Empire. Pardon the herasy, but i was a SW fan long before i was ever a ST fan...:guffaw:

actually, A New Hope was always my favorite of the trilogy.

Well I like the youngness in Abram's Trek do you like the way the characters act

i was thinking about that yesterday actually, overall i think the aspect of the youth of their personalities was overshadowed well, but i have difficulty with Ohura and Scotty.

I just dont see Ohura as having been quite so much of a busybody go-getter. and Scotty (who was always my favorite) seemed to me like too much of an afterthought "well how do we get scotty into the movie?" Mr Scott always had that lovable childlike love of his work, and a slightly humoristic quality (that part did show thru in XI).

i just dont picture either of those two aging/evolving into their namesakes.

I could care less about the director's attitude, or personality. I care about the finished product, which I found entertaining, and was pleased that it led to a resurgent interest in what was a dead franchise.

He can be a dick. BFD. Some say Shatner is a dick. I still will pay money to watch him act.

They rebooted it a year or so before that. Dropped a few characters, changed some actors and upgraded the sets.

Where did the poster say that he thought Star Trek was horrible prior to JJ Abrams?

Hell Gene Roddenbery himself basically insulted Trek fans when he said "If I listened to the fans Star Trek would be s@#t." And I'm still willing to watch it.

I heard that quote somewhere.

Abrams' attitude leaves me cold, too. I enjoyed the film, but I agree with the OP, if Berman had said some of the things Abrams has, he'd be crucified. Double standard.

Abrams likes SW? Fine. Go ask Lucas if you can make a SW movie then. Don't go saying Trek has to be more like Wars.

Because, of course, Star Trek was doing oh-so-well prior to 2009, what with its having a long-running and highly-rated and critically-acclaimed TV series on the air and the last movie having been such a big hit.

Oh wait.

Sorry, folks, but if Star Trek was going to survive onscreen, it needed to change. Evolution -- adapt or go extinct.

Doesn't mean it had to change into a empty, childish, meaningless pile of shit. You can also choose to change into something deeper and grander.

1. That has nothing to do with whether or not Star Trek should adopt some of the stylistic choices made in the Star Wars films.

2. I completely agree. Fortunately, Star Trek did not change into an empty, childish, meaningless pile of shit. :bolian:

You're trying too hard.

You can also choose to change into something deeper and grander.

They tried to create something that appeared like it was "grander" and "deeper" with Star Trek once. And how did that work out for "The Motion Picture?" Not that great.

 Right, that must be why TMP with adjustment for inflation is the second highest grossing of the Star Trek movies before the new Abomination.

Grander and deeper must be the reason why The Dark Knight did so poorly... oh, wait a minute.

I'm going to watch Star Trek and Star Wars again to see if they do compare in any way.

I'll start with the one about a dude who leaves his home behind to pursue his destiny at the behest of some old dude who knew his father whilst the bad guys blow up planets.
