Re: I cannot believe what they have done to Janeway in the VOY relaunc
I was more annoyed at the terrible characterizations of the new TNG characters in Before Dishonor than at Janeway's death. (Or Pluto's.) Especially since KRAD had just started getting the new crew to mesh in his previous novel.
PD's spot-on characterizations of the TNG crew had always been one of his strong points. Granted, he couldn't have been expected to know the new characters as well (since the other novels were being written at the same time). But a little coordination among authors would have been nice, or at least some respect for the characters even if he'd gone a different direction with them.
After his treatment of them, most of them had to be written out of the series! Was that in the plan from the beginning? I can't imagine it would have been, in all the previous TNG relaunch novels they seemed to be trying to get the crew to gel. It's almost like after his mutiny wrecking ball they had to just scrap them and start over.
Janeway's death as almost an afterthought was just sort of lame.
I'd say read it if you want to but have low expectations.

But don't miss Full Circle and Unworthy - great stuff. And I'm not really even a Voyager fan, I'm more of a TOS / TNG / DS9 guy.
Before Dishonor was very disappointing. Vendetta had been one of my favorites since it was first published, and I was so excited he was writing a followup. Peter David used to be my favorite Trek author too ... I'm still a fan but he's slipped a LOT in recent years.
