It's not so much that the general audience would `not understand` a Q character - it's that it won't fit into their trilogy or saga. Q is a TV episode character, that's all.
Prince Xixor was an excellent character in a Star Wars novel, Shadows of the Empire, taking place between Empire Strikes Back and the Return of the Jedi. Hey, great. That doesn't mean there's room for him in the films.
Introducing Q into these movies is just needlessly (and foolishly, I have to say) leading the story way off the beaten path and throwing the whole continuity of a trilogy (or perhaps longer saga) into a state of limbo without any sense of direction.
In short, it's just not going to happen. The Enterprise crew doesn't need a moral lesson from a God after stopping Nero and neither does the general audience.

That was not my point. Despite being "aggressive," Nero and his crew (and his ship) looked and acted nothing like the Romulans we'd previously seen in TOS and TNG. Which was a good thing, IMHO.

Luckily I highly doubt that the Q character will be involved. Has there ever been a more overrated character in the ST universe than Q? I for one was never a fan. Couldn't stand the cheesy nature of the character as played by John Delance.

What's the point of reprising Trelane? "The Squire of Gothos" comes with a surprise ending: the shock reveal that this powerful being is, in fact, an immature, petulant child, who gets reprimanded by his parents and told to leave his new toys alone and come in from play.
Similarly, I'm not expecting to have a replay of the horta ("Devil in the Dark"), Korob and Sylvia ("Catspaw"), the Triskelion gamesters, nor Balok ("The Corbomite Maneuver").
They could always start with Trelane killing his parents or something like that, and going on a galaxy-wide tantrum rampage. Just because a character's being recycled, doesn't mean their story is or motivations in their original appearence are. See: Pike in "The Cage" vs STXI Pike. One was disillusioned with Starfleet and life, the other saw a bright future for Starfleet in James Kirk.
The film with have Klingons, and in TOS-era the Federation and Klingons are enemies. There will be no god-eske characters in the movie. It will be a summer action blockbuster film. Why can't we collectively agree on what's been stated about Trek XII and let this topic die?

If there will be Klingons they should have a TNG look. Its more badass and modern.
TNG Klingons looked like fools with pies on their heads and unconvincing rubber armour. JJ's Klingons looked dangerous. There's a picture online somewhere showing a close-up of one of their eyes. The shape isn't quite human. It's feral.
They also had a very cool modern version of the TOS Klingon costume in the Nero comic, which I think would work well.

That makeup's incomplete, and the effect diminished by not having the helmet. With the forehead, which I've no doubt will look far more real than what we saw on TNG, DS9 and ENT, I'm certain we'll see the coolest Klingons ever.

It is almost frightening how much I always agree with your posts. If the next movie does have Klingons I feel they will be more realistic than they have ever been portrayed on Star Trek.
Because pretty much nothing has been officially stated at this point?
For all we know it's a musical comedy . . . .
