Forget about trek lore for a minute and look at this from a producers stand point, Q or even Trelane is not the type of villian for this sort of movie. Q was good for TNG's pilot because it was a device that allowed the new audience to look at TNG and how the Federation and mankind has evolved since TOS. It was a more cerebral plot device to bring fans into a new, on going, series. The new movie has to be a complete rounded 2 hour event with action, a complety different animal then TNG. Q will not be in this movie i can tell you that.
