I may hate what Roseanne tweeted but I don't hate her and she deserves a chance to redeem herself. Others have said and done far worse and gotten away with it. That comedian who called Trump's daughter a cunt is nothing but a bully who would gladly do it again.
Roseanne has a long history of racist, xenophobic, antisemitic (before she went the other way and started calling anyone critical of Israeli policy "Nazis"), and conpiracist social media posts. She went after the victim of the Parkland school shooting on the day her show was rebooted.

Sam Bee crossed the line one time while giving an impassioned speech pleading to a woman who claims to care about children to do something about her father's horrible policy of separating children from their parents.

If you can't see the difference in attacking entire groups of people for simply being different from you and attacking one person for standing idly by while children are needlessly traumatized, or if you are speaking out of ignorance of Roseanne's MANY past and present issues, than that is on you to rectify, not everyone else.

If she can't say it without crude derogatory language she isn't the person to bring this issue to Ivanka Trump or anyone else. Calling someone a cunt and calling someone an ape are both vile insults. Only Roseanne has been punished and it's dubious whether she even knew Valerie was a person of color in the first place. If Samantha Bee is forgiven then Roseanne should be too in my opinion.
Of course she knew she was black, otherwise an insult playing upon centuries of dehumanizing comparisons of black people to apes wouldn't have had any effectiveness.

Stop trying to compare the two things like they have anything to do with each other, apart from happening around the same time. Roseanne is not "the only person who has been punished" for saying something racist.

Sam Bee is offensive and achieved nothing.
No, Sam Bee made an offensive remark in service of a good cause and immediately apologized for it. Ivanka has achieved nothing on the issue of helping children, something she claims to care about and has a much greater power to influence than Sam Bee does, seeing as how she works for the White House, is the daughter of the President, and married to one of his chief advisers who was placed in charge of damn near everything at one point. That was the whole point of the segment, that Ivanka should be "achieving something" to help these kids. Where's your anger at her? Why isn't that considered offensive? She's more worried about improving her financial portfolio.

Have Roseanne Connor win the lottery, take all the money and bail on her family without looking back.

It’s official now with the Connors spin off show. I suppose we will need a new discussion thread for that

I was just coming to post the same news. Here are more details:

ABC has given a series order to “The Conners,” a spinoff starring original cast members John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, Lecy Goranson and Michael Fishman. Not part of the new series will be Roseanne Barr, who played the matriarch on the long-running and recently revived — and more recently canceled — multi-camera comedy. Barr will, according to ABC, have no financial or creative involvement in the spinoff.
.
.
.
Gilbert, Tom Werner, Bruce Helford, Dave Caplan, Bruce Rasmussen, and Tony Hernandez will serve as executive producers on the spinoff, which hails from Werner Entertainment.
.
.
.
“The Conners” is currently a working title for the spinoff, which has been given a 10-episode order. It is not known how Barr’s character will be written off the show.

“The Conners’ stories demonstrate that families can always find common ground through conversation, laughter and love. The spinoff will continue to portray contemporary issues that are as relevant today as they were 30 years ago,” an ABC spokesperson said in a statement.

The new order is for three episodes fewer than that given to the anticipated new season of “Roseanne.” In order to hit a fall premiere date, writers and producers will need to work on an expedited schedule. News of the show’s cancellation last month came on the same day that the writers room for the new season of “Roseanne” was scheduled to open. Though the new series will be able to take advantage of having crew in place, production will still be far behind that of other shows anticipated to premiere this fall.
.
.
.
In a joint statement released by ABC, cast members Goodman, Metcalf, Gilbert, Goranson, and Fishman said: “We have received a tremendous amount of support from fans of our show, and it’s clear that these characters not only have a place in our hearts, but in the hearts and homes of our audience. We all came back last season because we wanted to tell stories about the challenges facing a working-class family today. We are so happy to have the opportunity to return with the cast and crew to continue to share those stories through love and laughter.”

Garfield Without Garfield works so... maybe?

This news finds me very surprised (did they drive Roseanne out to the countryside and leave her in a field??) and I understand why they are doing this... is it going to work without the Roseanne character to play off everyone? The heart of the show is the antagonizing she subjects her family to on a daily basis.

Assuming that formula remains - they aren't going to recast Roseanne Connor, so are they going to include a hamfisted TV executive-created, Poochy-style, Great Gazoo-esque new power foil for the gang to play off?

LONG LOST AUNT TROSSANNE:
Hey kids! President Trump wants you little patriots to always be recycling - or else!
(As she drives away on her power scooter, the horn plays one merry bar of La Cucaracha)
Could anyone see them discretely writing her as off in rehab somewhere?

She won't be in rehab, from the TVLine article it sounds as she is going to be dead and Becky will be pregnant.

Yes Sam Bee IS offensive and so is Roseanne Barr. Sam only drew attention to her language that is all she achieved.
I’d actually say that Trump’s child concentration camps are more offensive that anything Bee said. Ignoring that heinous act to focus on her is even more offensive because you’re trying to shift the anger away from a disgusting act. One is an insult and the other will go down in history books as one of the worst things Americans have done.
