How many more seasons do this show have left?

I'm fine with "scatty bonkers mad professor." But I don't think they should even attempt "manic as Tennant," even if it's only "sometimes." I'm hoping for something more quiet like Jon Pertwee or perhaps quiet-funny like Tom Baker.

I'd definately like it if Amy were the more forceful of the two. I've been hoping for an almost distantly distracted Doctor that sometimes needs to be dragged back into the present crisis. (In my head, I've been picturing the absent-minded Doctor paired up with a driven former police detective.)

Also, a companion I'd like to see in the future: Barbara Chesterton, named after her grandmother, naturally. I think it would be a great reference to the past, yet they wouldn't even have to dwell on it. Just have her make some reference early on about how, "You remind me of this weird story my grandfather used to tell me."

I never thought of either Tom Baker or Jon Pertwee as being quiet, but I relaly enjoyed Tennan't portrayal of the tenth Doctor he was really was similar to Davison in a number of ways.

I think DW taking a break this year was a very good idea - American shows past their fourth or fifth season have a nasty, nasty habit of getting worn down. The Simpsons and L&O are still on the air after a staggering two decades, but they're mostly going along on fumes now. It was amazing Doctor Who made it as long as 1989, so little wonder Jonathan Nathan Turner was getting as creatively burned out as Rick Berman was with post-TNG Star Trek.

I don't believe there was a serious dip in quality with S3 & S4 of NuWho, but the RTD formula was getting repetitive, especially with the season finales (but we had great stories like "Blink" and "Turn Left"). Russell T. Davies has mostly done a great job, even if he seemingly gets overworked and made a few misteps, so don't listen to the crazed ranters. Moffat will be great as a producer for the next half decade, at least.

Lets be honest, the introduction of Matt Smith & Stephen Moffat becoming the producer will give the show as much of a revamp as it might need due to age, at this point

We can't know that yet.
Yes, actually we do. We do because it happened before many times, and because when you change the showrunner, the actors, the main characters and the sets of a show, it's as radical a revamp as it can possibly be.

not to mention all the changes we have seen from the set reports

Well, Pertwee, Tom Baker, & Davison were all very quiet, at least compared to Tennant's frequently hyperactive antics. There was always a mischevous twinkle in their eyes but they seemed content to let the show breathe.

I disagree about Pertwee and Baker, the real difference between the show then and now is that stories are shorter now, Tennant's performances in the two parters are a little more laid back.

If they gave the show more time to breath the lead would be given it as well. Mind you they're still producing halfthe series the old series used iin the same amount of time.
