Home for those who dislike this movie?

As much as many of us who liked the movie might enjoy the creation of a forum where those who disliked it could go - instead of here - that ain't the way it works. Folks of many differing opinions must learn to live together here, much as people of many faiths and backgrounds live peaceably in the Middle East. ;)

That's the exact opposite. Voyager tanked because it was a bad, studio messed-with TNG 2.0. Enterprise tanked because it was a worse studio messed-with Voyager 2.0.

EVERYBODY recognized Enterprise as Star Trek with one eye-glance. It is exactly the same, with the exact same story telling, and the exact same scenes, and often even plagiarizing previous Star Trek episodes.

The whole problem was that they did NOT try let alone attempt to reinvent the franchise. Or rather the writers and producers tried, but then got shut down by the network/studio execs who were all about making carbon copies of previous Trek shows.

Trek needed a change, and it needed one badly; a Trek that had more drama, more human drama, and less technobabble, without reducing it to a meaningless, "what science?", not even a single hint of accuracy, plot, drama or care pile of shit, that still remained true to its roots. At the same time, it needed to look completely different, sound completely different, be filmed completely different, so different that only long-time, hardcore fans could recognize bits and pieces. In other words, a GENUINE prequel staying true to continuity and canon what was needed...

And then the studios interfered.

And then we got JJ's Trek Wars, that unholy abomination of unprecedented proportions. Remember that reducing to a meaningless "what science?", not even a single hint of accuracy, plot, drama or care pile of shit.

That's what we got: http://www.trekbbs.com/showthread.php?t=96577

And I just don't get why so many people like it; let alone Star Trek fans. I can't wrap my mind around it. It's bad enough that it is a betrayal of everything that Star Trek was and represented, but it is also just plain a horrible, horrible, horrible movie. I've never seen a movie THIS bad, ever.

lol, typical butthurt reaction. :rommie:

That rant of yours is entirely your own personal opinion, which very few people share other than yourself. And you don't get why so many people like it because you can't think outside the box of your pre-programmed uber-fan self-congratulatory attitude. I feel sorry for you that you've obviously spent so much time and effort justifying your hatred for a simple Trek movie.

While I feel people are certainly entitled to not like the film, and I'm not about to claim that what follows applies only to those who don't like the film, I'd feel they were a lot more credible if they'd- a) stop taking potshots (i.e. calling the film 'The Abomination') and engaging in other tactics where the goal doesn't seem to be productive discussion, and b) stop presenting their opinions as fact (i.e. "It's a bad bad movie!"). Granted I tend towards literalism when I speak, but I have a lot more respect for "I didn't like the movie, and this is why..." than I do for "The Abomination sucked and you're a moron if you think otherwise!!!" Especially when there is a sharp majority suggesting otherwise.

Oh bother! We've already gone over why The Abomination sucked. In enormous, encyclopedic detail. With charts and graphs and sombreros and everything. We're past that by now.

This is just the gallows humor trying to cling to sanity in a world gone mad phase now.

I have too many friends who loved the movie to even begin to say that those who do are "morons" (though I do still have some reservations, in a few cases...). I've even gone over what I LIKED about the damnable thing. The process of adaptation is still underway. After all, I DID buy the...movie on dvd. I can now cuss it out to my heart's content in the privacy of my own home.

I think what the Original Poster was asking is where do we non-NuTrek fans belong these days? Isn't there someplace where we can share our misery and disbelief without the frothy madness of the NuTrekkers raining down on our heads everytime we mutter something like, "No freakin' WAY that was 'Chekov'! I just don't believe it!"

You can do so wherever you like, be it in this forum or general movies. Just don't act like such a goddamned butthurt asshat while you do (I know it's hard for XI bashers to do, but whatever).

Edit: Also, you can call XI whatever you like, but that doesn't change the fact that it has stolen the hearts of more of the general public than any Trek film previously. Get over your assinine and petty behavior.

ITT: Butthurt and acceptance of mediocrity over quality.

"Herp derp, XI wasn't exactly what I Star Trek is to me and my rose tinted glasses! Higgeldy derf!"
In case you hadn't picked up on it, Bob isn't being entirely serious.

He's entitled to post his reaction, whether you share it or not, and this makes three times today I've seen "butthurt" in a post made by you (twice in this thread alone.) Drop that now, please -- it's unnecessarily personal and it's not wanted here.

Edit:

Oh, never mind -- we're past that now.

Bob is joking. You, on the other hand, now have a warning for trolling. Might as well be flaming, but there it is. Comments to PM, and I want to see no more behavior like this from you.

i dont like to whine, but can i still bitch about it? it may be the NEW star trek, but it will never be MY star trek

Why drone on endlessly about something you don't like? Just ignore NuTrek if you dislike it so much. Alot like what I do with Voyager and, to a lesser extent, Enterprise.

i happen to like voyager, and think it was the closest to the original concept than any of the other spinoffs.

"NuTrek" labeling it such may be your first mistake...

Did Futurama's direct-to-DVD status allow it to return to TV as a weekly series? No. Was the budget for "Bender's Big Score" $150 million dollars? No.

Obviously the rules are different for animation as opposed to a live-action production.

This is Star Trek from now on. Try not to whine so much.

Exactly. Anyway, everything that came after TOS (including some of the TOS-cast movies) did as much or more to "hurt" Star Trek than this movie did.

it may be the NEW star trek, but it will never be MY star trek

This sound like people I work with who say "He may be the President, but he's not my President."

Thus explaining how the series named Enterprise where they boldly went was the first Trek series to get canceled since the original?

Oh. You and your bothersome details! The thing that killed Enterprise was the whole prequel/retcon thing and the fact that for some reason the producers and writers did their best to avoid anything recognizable as "Trek", until the 4th season. (Don't get me wrong, I actually enjoyed Enterprise even if I did grumble through the entire agonizing Xindi arc. blah.

Simple, you're delusional. Oh of course you have the right to your own opinion, but when this many critics and fans like, no love this movie then you have to question exactly what's wrong with yourself. Feel free to go explore this in meditation.

It's ok to hate the new movie. It's ok to dislike it. It's ok to dispise it. It's ok to not have enjoyed it. That's human. This is the Trek XI board. Not the "I loved Trek XI board"

Hello,

*I am not trying to cause a problem, I am just finding my way around here.*

Is there a specific forum where I can read comments and thoughts from those who disliked this movie?

I am a life-long Star Trek fan, and so is my husband.

I have serious concerns about the future of true Star Trek, I fear that the popularity of this Abrams film will take it off of the rails forever. Will we ever have a new TV series based in the true timeline - not from the "rebootverse"? Will we have films in the future, based in the regular timeline?

Is there a thread or forum I should be using, or are these sentiments just scattered through all sections? Should I post all Abramsverse issues here?

Thank you very much.

I have several thoughts on this...why do you need to go on about it endlessly if you dislike it so much in the first place? Just move on. This forum is the perfect place to start threads on your distaste for the movie, just be prepared for it to disappear quickly since you are in the vast minority.

Why do you need to go on about people going on about it?

Just move on.

Why drone on about people who don't like what you like. If you dislike their opinions so much just ignore them.

Because misery loves company. Otherwise, why go through all the effort off hating something? It's no fun to hate alone.
