Hockey Talk - 2007-2008 Season

That's cause you're in Canada, hoser. It has nothing to do with your hockey team.
Take off eh! Canada is the leading light of freedom in this world, a liberty diamond in the rough. We rule all when it comes to the pursuit of happiness and sheer domination of hockey.

See you at the Olympics, beatch!

Yay for disposing of players and getting nothing but draft picks. Mind you I wasnt expecting too much more than that.

Have a beer eh!

Hooray for not getting rid of the dead weight making 3.7 million dollars for sitting on the bench! Seriously, I love Roli as much as the next guy, and defended him even before he became the next Jebus during the Oilers Cup run, and I continued to defend him last year even; but right now, I'd be willing to take anything I could for him.

Yeah lighten up eh.

I don't follow hockey closely enough to say whether or not the trades themselves were decent, but, really, I'm just happy to see the Leafs trade for draft picks.

And Hossa to Pittsburgh... I wasn't expecting that at all.
Understatement of the year. ;) Nobody saw this coming.

The Pen's had to sacrfice some real talent to get him. It's potentially a great move, though. The Pen's really needed a top notch player who can compliment Crosby when he returns without having to break up the excellent Malkin line. Well, mission accomplished, I'd say.

Leafs did the same.

However, this makes me ridiculously happy, since it seems someone finally gets how to do this whole general managing thing.

Senators fire their head coach Paddock, Bryan Murray takes over.

Ooops! Think this might have been a bit premature, even with their recent slide in the standings (though they're still 36-22-6). Remember how great they were at the start of the season? I would have given him until at least the end of the playoffs to determine his fate. Plus Heatley and Alfie have been injured and Emery's done his prima donna act and failed to find the form that got them to the finals last year.

All in all I guess it means the Senators want to win this year, and feel they can't do it with Paddock.

Weird....

Isnt it Montreal that is the best in the East? Or am I ignoring the east too much again?

Aren't the Senators still the best team in the East. I found that firing surprising.

Despite the record... no. The Sens have been playing terribly, of late... you only need to look at the fact that they lost to both Toronto and Boston over the last few nights by a combined score of 9-0.

That said, I don't know if firing Paddock with 18 games left in the season was necessarily the right move. It's pretty drastic, and I don't think it will work. I've been predicting an early exit for Ottawa for a while now, and I'm not changing that prediction any time soon.

Since the 16-3-0 start, Ottawa is 20-19-6 (five more losses than wins), and getting worse.

I think Paddock has been brutal. He juggles the line combinations unnecessarily, has wrecked BOTH goaltenders, calls his players out using the media, overplays his top line to exhaustion. It boggles my mind that he was made coach to begin with. You had a team that finished last season as a Stanley Cup finalist, and they bring in a coach with a record that is mediocre to poor. I just wish that they had terminated Eli Wilson, too (Emery's personal friend/goalie coach... the team hired him as their goalie coach when Ron Low, also fired now, was promoted in the offseason to asst coach).

Hossa going to the Penguins is really something. Forsburg will be hurt in 2 weeks, and I'm still surprised anybody picked him up for that price.... but I suppose I'm less surprised to see him land in Denver.

The only move I would have liked to have seen Calgary make, was pick up a power center. I like Tanguay--perhaps more that your average Calgarian--but I'm not so sure he fits in well with our system. I kept waiting to hear that we'd made a trade with Florida: Jokinen and Horton for Tanguay and Huselius and maybe a second round pick. I'm glad we didn't make any moves in the end. We have a solid team and are going to kick some god damn ass this spring!

Oh, and I forgot about Dallas and a few other things: Makinfg a trade for Richards was huge! The Stars are going to continue to be be a major power in the West for some time... Surely the Red Wing train will come to a stop one of these seasons. Colorado needs some fucking goal tending. Yep, Dallas is going to be king (behind Calgary, of course).

Brian Campbell would have been a real nice fit on the Flames' defense. Oh man, let me tell you... I knew we wouldn't go after a D-man, though. At least in San Jose, I might get to see him play once in a while. Poor Buffalo--raped again.

Sakic, my hero, scored to tie it up with less than 10 seconds to go. Talk about bitter sweet.

Went to a shootout, Svatos won it after Sakic scored a sweet ass backhand.

It was a hell of a game to watch, but the Avs are now 1 point back of us, so that really stings.

Well, Hossa's debut with the Pens went less than well. Out with an MCL sprain.

And yeah, I'm shocked that anyone picked up Forsberg. If he can play, sure, he's great but I don't think he'll last... if he even makes it into a game.

And Ottawa lost tonight in their first game under their new/old coach Murray. I don't think Paddock was the greatest coach but their problems go far deeper than Paddock.
