History Channel:Chasing Mumies

Nowhere Man

Commodore
Has anyone heard of this new show? I caught it late tonight, it's a reality series like Deadliest catch, but with an Egyptologist. First episode was pretty cool IMO. I'm just glad to see the History Chanel finally getting back to doing actual History.

Is this the one starring the Egyptian Indiana Jones Wanna-be? He's the Director of Antiquities (IIRC)... Zawi Hawass?

Egads, talk about a guy in love with himself. (Not that I blame him, with a job like that, but still... *sheeeeesh*)

Cheers,
-CM-

Yeah, That guy. He's definately in love with himself, but it was still cool. You don't understand, I want the History Chanel to do History agian so bad that i'll pretty much take anything, i'm desperate. This was pretty cool though.

If I had cable I'd try to catch it. Seen the previews at a friends house. My ex-girlfriend got me tickets to a seminar he gave here in Nashville, TN about 3yrs ago. I'd never heard of Zahi Hawass but she knew I loved history and especially Egypt so it was timed with my birthday.

He was a great speaker and had a nice presence. Since then I've noticed him in the news a few times and she is the one who first told me of the show. She's invited me over one night to check it out so I hope its good.

^ I'd say more like 70%, it sort of has to be. Archaeology is boring to watch. There were some real moments there. The intern getting stuck was not one of them, she seemed like an actress. Canadians are not that emotional.

I'd still rather watch scripted archeology on History over stuff like Ice Road Truckers or Tough in Alaska.

After watching Zahi Hawass in every single program set in Egypt, it isn't surprising to see him in something like this. I'm very intereted in Ancient Egypt and catch all the shows I can, and he's in nearly everything. He has a huge ego, but it was a little weird to see him fussing at everyone and telling them they're fired and will never work with him again.
Also, throwing poor people out of their homes to excavate dead people was disconcerting at the least.

It bothered me too until He explained that thier homes were in danger of colapsing into the tombs. I imagine they were compensated in some way.

I'm tired of scripted or faked reality shows on History, NatGeo, and such. I wish they would just show documentaries again, with a narrator and a panel of experts. I don't understand the whole jagged cameras and music and dynamic host stuff. That completely ruins Cities of the Underworld. That Zawi dude has been on every Egyptian show ever! He's the Mike Rowe of Egyptology, and its old.

I really also dont' like the way 'HI' is turning into History Channel Part 2 Ice Road Truckers and Gangland should not be on the 'International Channel'! Anymore I jsut pick the documentaries of old that I interest me from the Instant Watch on my Roku. I barely bother with the channels proper anymore. Too 300fied, too. Clash of the Gods, Monsterquest. Yeah, where is the history?

It was said in the pilot that they were given new land and built new homes.
