Thanks to Maury Parkman I have no idea what was completely real in this episode.

Still, I enjoyed it so it gets an Above Average.

Presumably, Mr. Petrelli wants Adam so he can use his blood to heal whatever is keeping him on life support.

Edit - couldn't that drug dealer have been in Central Park or similar ?

Even if he was, it still doesn't make sense to me why drug dealers would set up shop in a park. I thought the whole point is to be able to vanish into alleys or projects if your runner says a stick up man or 5-0 is heading your way. Also, it'd probably be easier to get ambushed in the woods.

All my drug dealing knowledge comes from The Wire of course, but according to that show you deal on street corners and dump bodies in parks.

If I looked like Adrian Pasdar I would have spawned an army by now. ;)

He is scrumptious as beefsteak and chocolate, no lie, but he was valedictorian of his class and attended Anapolis. He'd have had to take some time off from the constant intercourse to accomplish that. :p

I'm curious about Mr. Petrelli.

We know from the online comics that he wasn't a super naturally, but we also know that they came up with a formula that did grant powers to normal people. So, are we positive that it wasn't him who shut Angela up? It's obvious it occured during one of her dream visions (she dozed off a split second before everything happened and we saw the prophetic death of everyone close to her).

I mean, if it were Maury why would he be putting up a guise in Angela's own dream simply to put her out of the picture. And we've never actually seen Maury do anything like that before; the closest was when he put Matt into an imaginary world. Angela also seemed to realize how much danger she was in the moment she saw him in her dream.

So... yeah. Definitely curious there.

I thought the ending of the episode established that the elder Petrelli is pulling the strings of the elder Parkman. Acting on his orders, doing what he wants. Now why is Parkman even listening to Petrelli instead of making people just do what he wants? I don't know and expect it to be revealed in the next episode or two. I do question why they want Matt on their team they are building when they already have his father with the same power and more experience using it. Perhaps they need Matt for something while his dad is projecting Linderman into Nathan's mind? It seems risky to me to bring in such a person when you know he has daddy issues, daddy's on the team and the guy is a cop. I hope they have a good solution.

I think it is a sure bet the reason the elder Petrelli wants Adam is for a dose of his blood so he can heal and get up and around again.

So Claire and Mohinder will join the villains and Sylar is a hero. What's next? Every teenage character running around with superpowers is also Nathan's kid?

I think you're seeing the same things that happened in previous generations. Having great power corrupts and things are not always as they appear.

I'm rather disappointed with the "it's the power's fault that I'm evil!" theme we're getting this season, namely with Sylar, Peter, and Mohinder. It's just flat out lame.

I'd think they'd have to get Matt one way or the other. He's too much of a potential threat to have on the opposing side. They either have to turn him or toast him.

Good episode.
My best guess why Daphne is told to recruit Matt has nothing to do with the grand plan. I think his dad simply wants revenge.

Jeez. This volume is REALLY not letting up. Superb again, and as ubitiquitious as they are, the twists and shocks are nearly all excellent and genuinely surprising.

Did not see a single thing about this episode, except for Vortex man killing himself. HRG's plan was classic (and I think Sylar DID hear it, but seems to be making genuine efforts to be 'good')

I think that Sylar's apparent lack of super-hearing is indication that he doesn't retain any of his acquired powers other than the TK, as has been reportedly stated by one of the creators offscreen. (Don't bring up Future Sylar's nuclear powers, as he had four unseen years to reacquire them from somebody else.)

Anyone who thinks that Hiro honest-to-gosh out-and-out killed Ando is being naive. There's something going on there.

Doesn't make sense that he'd still possess telekinesis if he lost his other powers. So it really doesn't matter at all. You either ignore it or let it bother you.

Seriously, it really doesn't make sense. He learned how they worked and rewired his brain. If he could remember how telekinesis worked and rewired his brain for that after regaining his core ability, there's no reason at all he shouldn't have been able to rewire his brain for the other powers he possessed. Unless his power isn't "learning how shit works and getting to rewire myself" so much as "learning how shit works, getting to rewire myself, and remembering everything even before I stole Charlie's power since I had Telekinesis then."

It's bad writing no matter how you slice it.

I agree, bad writing is probably the case.

My bet is that they planed to kill him off at the end of season one, so it didn't matter how many powers or how powerful he was at that point, but then... He got very popular and they decided to keep him around and they are now stuck with having a villain that was to powerful so they had to "depower" him somehow and they just didn't think it through very well at the end of season two. Sylar in the ally moving the can telekinetically probably seemed like a good idea at the time, a cool finish to a crappy season, but it has led to lots of questions & confusion.

Of course it never made any sense that Sylar was able to "control" the stolen super hearing power when the lady who was born with it was unable to. Unless Sylar can turn his stolen powers on and off in which case maybe someone made him forget what powers he has.

One way to fix it? Throw in some line from the company saying that while they had Sylar captured they experimented on way to remove/inhibit his abilities, whether with mental blocks or mind control or erasing his memories of how to use powers, etc... something like that, probably involving the Haitian. They obviously couldn't kill him since he was a Petrelli, but maybe they wanted to "tame" him by making him forget certain things (without completely mind wiping him). Sylar's natural ability was immune to it (since they were using mental control on him not biological) but his other abilities were erased one at a time. Except he escaped before they could erase his memory of the telekinesis. Or something similar to that.

It's one way to explain it. Then in the heat of battle those "mind blocks" might fail and he will begin using old powers he had forgotten about (like when he went nuclear in the future).

Perhaps he just didn't want to listen in on them?
As for the episode, I'd have to say above average. I really enjoyed everything about this episode, it had a lot of great moments for each character, and everyone's storylines got at least some development. I'm really curious to see how Maury Parkman got out of the dream Matt trapped him in. As for him wanting Matt, I'm thinking that it was probably just because he wanted to get revenge, not necessarily because he wanted his power. I'm also curious to see what exactly it is that Arthur Patrellis is up, because I have a feeling it's probably something big if he needs this many people with powers. I'm wondering if perhaps he's gonna go after Angela and the Company, because so far all or most of the people he's (well Maury or whatever) has gone after so far have all been people who have worked against the company.
Knox & Daphne: Level 5
Maury: Attacked the Company
Adam: Killed Kaito, and Victoria Pratt
Matt: tried to take down the Company with Noah, and Mohinder
I actually kinda the Claire storyline this time. Although that was more because of the other people involved in it than Claire herself. I'm definitely curious to see if this will have anykind of a lasting effect on her relationship with her father, because she certainly didn't seem happy with him when the episode ended. The vortex guy was cool too.
The Nathan/Tracy story was also pretty good, I loved the whole exchange about their powers coming from a scientist in California, not God. The scene where Angela told them about how they gave them their powers was pretty good to. Now, I'm wondering who else has artificial powers. I was kinda confused about who it was that froze Angela. At first I was thinking it actually was Arthur Patrelli, but now I'm wondering if it was Maury instead.
I also really enjoyed the Hiro/Ando story. I actually thought the idea of a "Cantina for specials" was pretty cool. Like usual we had alot of great interaction between all of the different characters. I really like Daphne and Hiro, they would definitely make a better couple than her and Park-Man. I hope they keep Knox around, because I'm starting to like him. I can't believe you guys actually think Hiro really killed Ando, there is noway in hell that he did that. He obviously faked it somehow.
Now that I look back at the episode, I'm wishing I could go back and change my vote to exellent.

Perhaps he just didn't want to listen in on them?

Well, unless he somehow has more control of the power then the original lady did, that isn't possible. Remember, she had to live way out in the middle of nowhere and play death metal just so she wouldn't go insane from hearing to much of what was going on around her. She even could hear Sylar's heart beat pick-up from across the room when he learned of her ability. That is why she didn't trust him at that meeting. So she couldn't control her power and it's never been explained why/how Sylar could.

So she couldn't control her power and it's never been explained why/how Sylar could.

Sure it has. Just last week in fact. Remember why Peter needed future Sylar's power? His power is the ability to see how things work and to fix them. Sylar does it by deconstructing what he is studying like it was shown when he was taking Claire's regeneration. He sees exactly how the power works, how to turn it on and off, and then his own natural power "fixes" his own brain to be able to do it too. His power is also what made him a good watch repairman. He'd likely make a great mechanic too.

If Sylar's career with The Company fails, he can always join the Nerd Herd at the local Buy More... where he will proceed to cut open Chuck's head and take the Intersect. Then hook up with Sarah.
