I didn't see a thread for this new show Damon Lindelof is working on.

I thought the pilot was pretty good.

They forgot to introduce a plot. Is is the same mistake most of the post-Lost arc-based dramas fell victim to. Yes your premise is interesting, but why should I tune in next week? I couldn't tell you a single character's name, or their motivations, just some basics about the setting. If you want to capture my attention I have to care about the characters.

Mediocrity.

They introduce no compelling characters and ham up the hedonistic decadence, cause y'know, that's what happens when weird end of days type stuff is going on, right yeah? Then they introduce this weird silent cult with no clear goals except to stand around and weird people out. They have scenes and themes that don't go anywhere and don't justify themselves with any clear motives.

So basically, a lot of unjustified apocalypse cliches and characters you don't care about.

And even worse, it's really just a minute number of people who went missing. Sure, there's a mystery there, but only about 2% of the population? I don't even know 50 people beyond passing acquaintances, yet they'd have you believe every family was personally affected by these events -- and some with entire families going missing.

Likewise, the two cults don't make a damn bit of sense either. "Don't waste your breath, but smoke 24/7." What? "I'm a cult leader who magically turns cynical people happy after a few minutes of talking, but I have to threaten a kid with a knife to get him to not fuck one of my consorts." Huh?

I thought the same thing, but I live in a town with 20,000 people and if 400 of them disappeared I'm sure people would noticed.

However I wish it was a lot higher, but they wanted 140,000,000 people to disappear because of the 140,000 number that is in the Bible that go to heaven. (I think it's 140,000 anyways)

had an argument with a friend about the 140,000 people who are "sealed".

I said that they were the only ones who go upstairs, and she said, everyone goes up, they're just special favoured of god types who also go up.

Her version of the bible is cherry picked and sanded down, to be more incredibly nicer than it actually was ever intended to be.

I'm not religious but....

Thou shall not honor any God besides me. - Jealous God.

Yet she thinks there are 140,000 mini gods?

It seems interesting. But I'm curious as to where the series is headed. Is there a point or it is just a view of how the population would act if we were all experiencing an existential crisis? That can work for a movie, but not a series.

More like personal assistants to God.

Apparently working for God is more fulfilling then kicking back in heaven and enjoying their eternal reward.

You have to remember that the bible is rewritten by each fractured faction to justify each fractured factions unique perceptions of what it means to be Christian in opposition to all the other fractured factions who are wrong.

I'll just echo what everyone else has said. I don't care about (or even like) any of the characters. There is no plot in sight. A decent premise does not equal a decent show.

I'll give it a couple of more episodes, but I'm not hopeful.

If they had started with that pack of dogs ripping the deer apart, maybe I would have concentrated on the show more.

Oh. Doctor Who, and Liv Tyler from Lord of the Rings are bobbing about in the background. They certainly cast this thing like it was going to be ratings gold.

If leftovers is about God and revelations, it puts this'n thematically in direct comparison against that assclown Dominion... Tedium vs. Dumb.

No one wins.

Yes the way it was portrayed was making seem like they lost 30 percent of the worlds population rather than 2%. Loved the celebrity list at the end, oh man Gary Busey is gone also.. NO! LOL

So who was lost in the chiefs family? His wife is in the cult and his 2 kids (according to the picture) are accounted for. The only bad thing I can deduce is that he was having an affair (sex flashback) maybe that's why the wife left him?

These guys really need to need to listen to the 9th Doctor, maybe Rose disappeared? LOL

That was the impression I got. What with the look he gave when he said it was his dad that went crazy, the naked running, the talk of dogs who witnessed it going crazy, etc.

I've read about but not seen it. Is the manner in which the premise has been presented leave an opening for a reveal at some point that the "rapture" was caused by something quite apart, perhaps diametrically so, from a theological or philosophical construct? Or does it seem to be designed to continue riffing down a morose spiritual cul-de-sac?
