HBO Max Streaming Service Thread

I have the worst luck with this app. It never works correctly. First it was nothing I go to continue watching is where I left off it starts from the beginning every time. Cancelled for a few months and now I’m back. Went to go watch a few things tonight…when I hit play it started to load went blank like it was going to start playing and then went back to the episode/movie play menu. I tried 4 different items nothing would play. Restated my roku made sure the app was up to date. Nada.

I've had things not start where I left off a few time, but that's really the only issue I've had with the PS4 version.

I haven't had a problem with any of my devices yet. The interface is quite terrible, but at least stuff plays correctly.

Is there any interest in starting a Station Eleven thread? I assumed no one was talking about it because I'm not in the USA and don't see it on HBO Max.

FWIW I read the book first, liked it, and am halfway through the TV series and liking it. The differences so far make sense for the transfer from novel to TV series.

I was shocked to see no one had started one, but I figured there must not be enough interest, or someone would have started one back when it was first coming out.

Two episodes of Station Eleven to go. It's diverging more from the book, making certain characters seem more or less sympathetic than their print equivalents and clearly changing elements of the ending. Still, so far, so good. I wish more people were watching and discussing it, but that's life. If I like something it's often the kiss of death. When I was a kid in the '70s it seemed like every comic I liked was cancelled a few issues after I discovered it. At least once the first issue I bought was the comic's last issue. So I should be happy we're getting the full story.

I wasn't sure about posting this since it isn't SFF, but someone else mentioned it so what the hell.
Our Flag Means Death is a new pirate comedy coming from Thor: Ragnarok, What We Do In the Shadows, and Jojo Rabbit writer/director Taika Waititi. It looks absolutely hilarious to me.

Fun Fact: Stede Bonnet actually was a real pirate, who actually did run into Blackbeard, although I have a feeling the real life version probably wasn't as goofy as he is in the show.

"Murdered by pirates is good."

You had me at Taika Waititi. But add Rhys Darby and I am *totally* on board!

Yeah, that's the one I was talking about. Looks fun.

I've been looking for another series to watch, and I've seen Fringe recommended a lot. Might as well get into it. I am looking for a non-superhero type sci fi series now that Expanse is done.

Just got a sub the other day and catching up on some DC flicks. I thoroughly enjoyed Zack Snyder's version of Justice League. IMO it's ten times better than what I saw in theaters. Also enjoyed Batman: The Long Halloween parts 1 and 2. I haven't read that story in awhile but the film seems pretty faithful to the source material(unlike the Killing Joke). Trying to get thru Shazam but it keeps cutting off for some reason.

FYI: If you do end up watching FRINGE, Episode 1x21 (Unearthed) should actually be watched between Episode 1x17 (Bad Dreams) and Episode 1x18 (Midnight).

Good to know, but isn't Episode 21 the first season finale? Why would they air it out of order.

I'm watching the first two episodes tonight and it's pretty interesting so far.

No.

The episode I mentioned is listed as Episode 1x21 on HBO Max only because it was produced as the 21st episode of Season 1 in order to fill a quota. However, it didn't air until midway through Season 2.

Narratively, it's actually completely standalone, but features a character whose ultimate fate made it incompatible with the continuity of the second season, and therefore best fits in between Episodes 1x17 and 1x18.

You could also skip it entirely without consequence, were you so inclined.
