Spoilers Halo: Season One - Discussion Thread

Ok. So I watched it and enjoyed it for the most part. But the fact that the people of Madrigal were driving around in 19th and 20th century era vehicles and using AK-47s really kind of took me out of the element. I find it hard to believe anything like that would still be around in 2552.
There are ATVs in the games.

I'm just looking forward to seeing a chupathingy.

My bad.. I meant 20th and 21st Century.. My math is always off these days. LOL
Oh OK. I thought maybe I missed something in the background somewhere.
But now, I really want a horse drawn buggy on an Earth Colony ;)
Would the Amish use a space ship to leave Earth and set up their own colony?
LOL... Firefly had horses.
So did the reboot Lost in Space.
I can see some sense in using horses on newly colonized planets. As long as there is drinkable water, and plants they can eat, or if the planet can sustain their diet, they'd probably require less resources than motorized vehicles, and they can cover a bigger variety of terrain than a wheeled vehicle could.

Finished ep 2. If you just want the season to be Master Chief blowing up Covenant then it was a "filler" episode. There is no action at all in the episode. But I would not really call it a "filler" episode. The episode does give us some nice backstory and world-building and advance the story arc.

Yeah, filler would be something like that season 2 episode of Stranger Things. This both developed the characters and advanced the plot.

I'm also not very familiar with Halo lore and I'm getting into the show. It's nothing groundbreaking yet, but I wasn't expecting it to be.

They didn't swim from Europe to America. ;)
This reflects a common misunderstanding of the Amish, that they always eschew technology. Some communities do but other communities have different rules regarding use of technology. It must be in service to the community and not take away from individual contribution to the larger community.

Of course the Torchwood guy is a bastard. That actor has been terribly typecast.
To his credit, he played a good guy in the Pacific Rim movies. But yes, he does get the jerk roles pretty often. He was fantastic in Turn: Washington's Spies.

I really loved the design of the Rubble.

I'm wondering if Makee and John are siblings since both are able to use Forerunner tech. IIRC in the games all humans are able to use it, but it seems rare in the show and the showrunners are hinting at them being connected. The later games made a point that John was unique among Spartans and humans as the culmination of a Forerunner genesong. The Forerunners had perfected genetic engineering to the point they could influence the technological development of a species. Humans being the heirs of the Forerunners were influenced to eventually redevelop advanced body armor, AIs and space travel that's similar to what ancient humans had and the Forerunners themselves had in case the Flood returned. John is supposed to be a return to what ancient humans were before their forced devolvement by the Forerunners, so anyone he is related to would be to.

I’m wondering why they didn’t just use Blue Team, because Silver Team is starting to feel like suspiciously similar substitutes.
