Guess the episode...from german dub titles

TNG was even better.
"Hollow Pursuits" became "The timid Reginald"
"Bloodlines" became "Revenge of the Borg" (! later changed to "Bok's revenge").
"Realm of Fear" became "Death terror during beaming". And "Timescape" became "Trapped in a temporal fragment":vulcan:

This inspired me to later give episodes I don't like alternate titles as well. For example I always call that dumb Hoshi transporter episode "Death terror during beaming 2". "Singularity" I call "Obsession rays from the Black Hole", "Twilight" is "time worms in the brain". "Fortunate son" is "Young Laredo and the Nausicaans"

But the title is not fitting.

It should not be Riker:2, but Riker x 2. :)
Fitting, because it alludes to the title of a TOS episode that was several years old at the time, not because it correctly reproduces the plot of the episode. ;)

Thanks for that...didn´t have time to post over the weekend.
Good. I was afraid you might take offence at it. Also, I was unsure if you'd be returning.

And don´t get me started on that awful episode "Weltraumfieber" (space feaver)..wich was a total recut of "Amok Time" to totally change the plot.
Fortunately all of that has been restored for the DVD release.

My all-time favourite is "Notlandung auf Galileo 7" ("Emergency landing on Galileo 7"). I mean, how many minutes of the episode do you have to watch to get that Galileo 7 is not the planet but the shuttle? :brickwall:
Yeah, that's maybe the stupidest one. Although they finally corrected it for the DVD release.

"Bloodlines" became "Revenge of the Borg"
Wait a minute, I never heard of that one. Are you sure that is true?

Hm, I kinda liked Vermisst.

:rommie: I can just imagine how thousands of German trekkies were clutched to their seats after reading that title, and got a massive disappointment in the episode. (Even though it is actually pretty good)

Yeah, it was first "Borgs Rache" when it was still running on ZDF. Since this was before I could inform about Trek fast on the net THIS:

happened to me as well. And getting Bloodlines as "compensation" was much more than disappointment:lol:
I dunno when they changed the title though. It became much better in late TNG and after.

And then there is "Zurück in die Gegenwart" (Back to the present) for "The Voyage Home"...okay, the literal translation "Die Reise nach Hause" would have sounded like a movie for animal lovers but still....urgh...

Watching trek back than in Germany was always an adventure anyway...I distinctly remember having recorded a late night repeat of initial run TNG and watching and right after credits all of a sudden BANG "Ripe women over 60....CALL NOW!"....barf....

Oh and don´t get me started on the number of times SAT1 managed to air the SECOND part of a two part episode first and then the first part the day after....

We saw that in the theater in Germany while we lived there. I figured they named it after the Michael J. Fox hit from the year before.

Hm, I don't remember it then. By the way, Bloodlines' first aired on 21st July in 1994 in Germany, when it was already broadcast by Sat.1 ...

Yeah, that's what I always figured, too. It's the same reason why Quantum Leap was titled Zurück in die Vergangenheit (back to the past) in Germany.

But still, the stupidest retitling for a Trek movie is Am Rande des Universums (on the edge of the universe) for The Final Frontier. Makes you wonder if they even bothered to actually watch the goddamn movie. :wtf:

They probably did, but after realizing how terrible it was, they started to make up their own movie in the middle of watching it and titled it accordingly. :p

Try to guess the following episodes from their german dub titles (all are season 1):

1. Top of the iceberg
2. Pokergames
3. Kirk : 2 = ?
4. The central nervous system manipulator
5. War of computers

I'm late to this game but here's my guess:

1. For the World is Hollow and I Have Touched...
2. The Corbo. Man.
3. The Enemy Within
4. Dagger of the Mind
5. A Taste of Armag.

"Top of the iceberg" seems to be the hardest one, and coming to think of it, the only connection to the episode I remember is that someone called a certain woman in that episode "walking iceberg". Since they used a different word in the English version, this is really a tough one.
