Undermined somewhat by the fact that you absolutely could use the jump point method to get to Ego's planet.

Crap. Forgot about that (those) bit(s). We did see the jump point(s) to Ego's planet

The characterizations struck me as the movie's real strong point. I can remember someone stating that he or she prefer strong characterizations over anything else in a film. I'm a big fan of strong characterizations, which is why I like "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" so much. But without the characterizations, I feel as if this movie wouldn't be much. The story struck me as a recycled version of a Bond movie from the 1970s.

I loved the movie, quite possibly more than the first one. If nothing else, Ego was a much stronger villain, and even holds up well compared to Marvel villains in general.

While the overarching Ego plot is nothing especially new or unique...Son meets Father for the first time and Isn't Impressed...I not only feel that the particulars of how it was handled were done well, but that the subplots running through the film, which also might not stand up well at a cursory glance, were handled well.

The acting is certainly a strong part of this, and I think we should remember that at least two of the characters didn't even exist in their final appearances at the time of shooting. That we're able to care about Rocket, for instance, says a lot about the skill of those involved in bringing him to life.

I gave it an A

Comic nerd observation: Didn't notice it in the first film, but Nebula's design reminds me of Kang the Conqueror. The purple and blue colors, the "vent" on her head and the lines that run down her face all seem very Kang like.

Nice catch! Nebula actually infiltrated a council of Cross-Time Kangs in Walt Simonson's brief tenure as Avengers writer.

I gave it an A. Plot wasn't all that exciting, but the acting and the character development were stellar, and Michael Rooker deserves some kind of acknowledgement for what he was able to accomplish as Yondu.

I thought the structure of the film (basically a musical) helped it avoid the typical "we've seen this already" sequel boredom.

Drax got almost all the best jokes, and Batista pulled off every one of them with consummate perfection.

The Mary Poppins bit and the turd in the pillow jokes (among many others) brought the house down when my wife and I saw the film over the weekend.

I saw it yesterday and had a great time. Baby Groot, Nebula's deadpan sigh's of exasperation, Drax....the soundtrack.

And of course Zoe and Chris. :)

I gave it a B+.

The short version: I really liked it, but not as much as the first one. Also, it needed about 25 minutes cut out and it might have been an A+.

This film has more heart than either Stars (Trek or Wars).

Loved the little phaser bank sphere gutterballs.

So, with regards to merchandise: Are we going to see any good ship models, other then LEGO and the Aged 3+ playhtgings for action figures like in the last one?

I'm hoping Dark Horse of NECA will have some
I like the ship line here:

Oh yeah, and bonus points for the Ben Browder cameo! I wish I hadn't known about that going into the movie, but it was great to see him.

I thought that was Pine at first.. I'm an idiot.

It's funny, that Mary Poppins line on the surface doesn't really seem that great but the way Rooker delivers it makes it one of the best in the movie.

What's really touching about that scene is at first its Starlord making fun of Yondu..but when he asks if Poppins is cool Starlord response is a sincere and emotional yes...meaning Yondu was cool

Who's the real Mary Poppins ya'll?
