I noticed James Gunn(the drummer) recreating his baby groot dance moves from the first movie(since he did the mocap for it)

Pity Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper aren't in it, but otherwise the whole cast seems to be having a lot of fun. :D

So weird and at the same time pure awesome

[It's scary just how well they recaptured the style of the few music videos of/from that era.]:wtf:

Wish this movie could've gotten to $400m but it's a smashing success.
I for one liked Stallone in the film and the nods they made to the original 31st century team.

Just bought this movie off of Amazon last night and watched it (along with all the bonus content). It was a fun romp, but not as good as the first outing. Just seemed to lack a certain something, some spark was missing. The jokes seemed to fall a bit flat and the movie dragged a bit in the middle.

All in all, a B grade from me. A fun popcorn romp, but nothing really remarkable...

I also gave it a B. It was a fun romp, but it suffered from the tendency of sequels to have too much stuff crammed into them just for the sake of being "bigger and better."

Current worldwide box office receipts are over $860m so over four times what the movie cost to make ($200m).

I think some people either misunderstood or denied the underlying character themes of the movie (probably denial as those themes could feel very personal) but I hope it will grow on them.

Not many characters outside of the core Avengers members made it through the script stages without some pretty hefty changes and it seems to me the film version of Mantis gives more room for interesting character growth and doesn't step on the toes of the other kickass women in the cast. It isn't like anyone was fighting to make a Mantis movie or to give her a starring role in The Avengers. Not every comic book character is going to make it to the screen with minimal fiddling, but as long as the movies are actually good and the changes appropriate for their role in them I say bring it on.

I hope so. Because after reading that article, I cannot help but feel that Gunn and the MCU's changes to her characters seem sexist.
Considering the strength and growth of the other female leads in GotG 1 & 2, I suspect the growth of Mantis is part of Gunn's plan.

Introducing the stakes in the third act through the discovery of Ego's plans didn't work well for me. That made the rest of the movie episodic and it didn't seem to be going anywhere except to the next fracas. Episodic structure works well when there is a goal to reach. If there was a goal, I missed it because I probably wasn't paying attention.

Having read the article about Comic Mantis versus Movie Mantis, if the movie had Comic Mantis, no one would have to fight Ego because she would have done it herself, and defeated him when she was wise to his plans. But that is not the story. The story is about fathers and sons (and Daddies). It was about Peter's character arc, his development, what he learns. Which should have been pretty freaking obvious.
The article complains about Mantis's portrayal, and I see the point made, but the author seems to forget that only Mantis had the special skill to deliver a "knock out punch" to Ego to allow the Guardians to position themselves to defeat him, and it wasn't a martial art move, but because of her empathic strength. And honestly, not all Asians are technical wizards or martial art masters, if we are arguing the article's point. It should be moot. Not knowing anything about the comic version of the character, I didn't see Mantis as Asian, or presenting Asians, I saw a non-human being—like much of the other characters—that wasn't representative of anything other than herself, who's characterization was necessary for the plot. The large eyes and antenna give it away that she isn't Asian.
