B+, very entertaining movie but I preferred the first one.
The humour in the first one worked better for me, the "Drax laughing hysterically" moments just didn't seem so great.
The showdown in the first movie was much cooler, I'm not a big fan of those superhero battles ("Starlord" and his dad flying around), I preferred the battle in the first movie.

Definitely enjoyed it, though. Plenty of fun moments. :)

I was worried with the lame turd 'joke' early on, and the story had much weaker push behind it than the first one... but it was still great. Loved seeing more of all the characters, and the Avengers working together. I think they did a good job of developing Starlord/Gamorra without rushing it.

And, as a big Amy Pond/Karen Gillan fan, it was great to finally see more of Nebula. She was awesome. I would love to see a Nebula or Nebula/Gamorra film.

I think the biggest surprise of the film for me was how much they developed Yondu and Craglin.

No, it wasn't as good as the first film... but it was still really good.

I would pay all of the money to watch that. And not just because I'm also a big Karen Gillan and Zoe Saldana fan.

As suspected, the whole "they used almost no CGI to make young Kurt" thing was complete bullcrap.

Some parts of the film press have written, inaccurately, that Young Ego was achieved with on set special effects makeup, others state that it was achieved with 3D animation. Both are completely inaccurate. While Kurt Russell did wear a 'Farrah Fawcett' wig, all of the de-aging was once again done by compositors at Lola VFX in LA[...]
The base plate was Kurt, he wore a wig and no special fx makeup just some tracking marks. We also had a younger double stand in. We shot him after Kurt, he did not have a wig, but he had matching tracking marks on his face (to those of Kurt Russell). In this movie every shot of Kurt is Kurt Russell, we never used the other younger actor for wide full body shots or even when his face is away from camera as they run down into the bushes. It is just Kurt - for all of them.

After having seen some of the other tentpole films since GotG 2's premiere, this film is for me one of the best summer films. Wonder Woman was good, yet this film edged out. The Pirates film and the Mummy film were terrible films. I did not see Baywatch - the idea of being subjected to a long drawn out penis joke did not appeal to me.

Grade: A-

I felt this was only a marginal step down from the first. Another solid entry into the MCU.
I question whether EGO is actually a Celestial. We saw a Celestial skull being used as a mining outpost in the first film. I suppose Celestial's can come in various sizes in the MCU but I took it that EGO just had that high of an opinion of himself that he called himself one anyway.

The comic fan in me likes how they are choosing to incorporate the 31st Century aka Original GotG into the film. They've made a few changes I question but overall I'd watch a film with this cast led by Stallone's Stakar(sp).

Well, Ego's brain/core was big enough to be a celestials brain. I think the celestials can basically be whatever they want,. Maybe some become huge humanoid creatures, but others could have weird forms like Ego had.

Also, I agree about the Guardians 3000. I never really liked them in the comics, but I'm definitely interested to see them in GotG 3.

Here's a question...obviously the music has been a big part of the movies with the mix tapes by Peter's Mom and other characters reacting to discovering this...

But isnt it really unlikely that a random mp3 player obtained in the last ten years is going to have a collection of songs in similarity to the Awesome mix tapes?

Well, considering the Zune held thousands of songs, the chances of it having a dozen or so that Peter will like seems high.

Also, I expect an Awesome Mix Vol 3 to take a slightly different form. Vol 1 and Vol 2 are all about the past. Peter's relationship with his mom, primarily. But used as a lens for his relationship to his father figures in the second film. It makes sense that Vol 3 would be more forward looking. Peter knows where he comes from, so where is he going? He knows what his mom and dad liked, but what songs are his? If anything, it opens the door for a really, really eclectic mix of songs and genres for a third entry.

Seems safe to say we're probably talking more late 80s and 90s. There's a reason they picked the Zune brand for this; famously unhip even during its hayday.

I've never been that big a fan of the MCU movies; they get the job done, but there were never any that I loved.

Turns out that going light on plot and heavy on theme and character is right up my alley. Gunn clearly has a lot of affection for the outcasts, misfits, and weirdos of his work. I've seen Vol. 2 three times now and my opinion of it has only increased each time.

More like this please, Marvel.

I hear a lot of people saying they thought volume 1 was better...but I dunno...these one seems more fun. I mean, I know some stuff was over-the-top like Yondu & ROcket jumping to different places and the Watchers....but I just let that go and have fun with it.

Very happy to have seen it in the theaters many weeks ago. Can't wait for Volume 3.

Oh, and that was the most elaborate credits I have ever seen. Totally worth seeing multiple times. "I am Groot"

I feel similar about the 2 Guardians films as I do about the Avengers movies. The sequel actually improves a lot of the things that weren't quite as well done in the original, but also drops the ball a bit on some things that were fantastic the first time around. They're very complementary to each other, so it's very difficult to choose one over the other.

Gag reel.

Seeing Sylvester Stallone i always got the vibe that he's doing it just because superhero movies are one of the few things in Hollywood that are nearly guaranteed to be a success and a very good way to push ones own visibility and career (not that Stallone needs it). He somehow doesn't fit in there and seemed to stick out for the little screent time he had as if he didn't want to do it ( i remember him talking on a talk show how he auditioned for the role of Han Solo back in the day and the way he presented it seemed quite dismissive of the whole SF genre, as if it were beneath a real actor's craft).

That being said i just recently saw it and it was quite good.. as others have said not quite on the level of the first one but still good. The first half was kinda hit an miss with the jokes and the story overall but the second half improved a lot, especially with character development and once we find out about Ego's plan.

I'm sad to see Yondu gone.. he was an awesome part of the first movie and here we got to see and experience much more about his character so when he sacrificed himself for Peter it meant something.. i may have went a little awww when they placed the small Troll figure on his funeral bed (nice nod to the first movie).

One thing though that didn't make much sense was the loss of Peter's Celestial power.. he is the offspring of a Celestial so why should he be connected to his father's source of power? He is a separate and new being and should "generate" his power on his own.. would have been cool to see Starlord slinging some small supernatural power around in the next movies (he still has eons to learn and improve).

If you look at it as Peter being an offshoot of Ego in the same way Ego's flowers and such were, then it makes sense that with Ego gone Peter was diminished as well. Not a big deal for me, anyway.
