Grand Theft Auto IV

^
Rubber bands, Nintendo's best friend. ;)

I've only done the one Brucie race, but basically all I did was stay on the road and not crash, and eventually I caught up and took the lead and never looked back. Maybe these races are programmed to have the CPU drivers make mistakes or not be able to catch up.

Yeah, the races are MUCH easier than the ones found in the GTA3 games. Just find a car that you feel comfortable driving. The Comet's good, but I like the GTA4 version of the Lambo as well.

Would it mess with people's minds if you were doing a GTA chase, and all of a sudden the car you were chasing comes to a sudden stop and goes flying into the air, and you see Mario or Yoshi in a go-kart coming the other way with spinning turtle shells?

Remember those two long races you had to win in San Andreas against the guy from GTAIII ? I won those in a truck! Fast cars weren't working on the country roads so I stole a truck and smashed people off the track instead.

I love the driving mechanics in GTA 4. There was a bit of a learning curve, and it took me ages to learn how to do a handbrake turn properly. But once I'd "clicked" with it, driving quickly went from an annoyance to my absolute favourite part of the game (which is probably a good thing for a Grand Theft Auto game...)

In fact, I can't play any of the others any more because they just feel too arcadey in comparison.

Can't for the DLC, don't care what the naysayers say.

I'd say that Niko could just shoot them... but then again, given the way GTA4 was designed, maybe not.

I basically turned on my car auto heal trainer and started wrecking all the other racers. I can't remember if I legitimately won a race in that game.

It's interesting how many people have problems with the driving in GTAIV. Now I don't know why (it could be all the driving games I've played in my life), but I actually thought the driving in GTAIV was quite easy. Now not as easy as in the previous GTA games, but still not at all hard. I did also like the fact that it felt more real (compared to the previous GTA games).

Spot on.

It has to be said though that if you do not play racing games or drive in real life it could be a bit difficult.

Am fucked then  The only aspect I have a problem with is the handbrake turn which is a little sesitive at making your car do 180 turns.

Well Lost Odyssey was boring and I got to missing GTA so I'm back at it! :p After about 10 tries I finally managed to follow that goddamn train for "Puerto Rican Connection". That was annoying. I just finished "Deconstruction" which only took 3 tries... nice to finally have a sniper rifle (I love sniping) too bad the ammo is so damn expensive.

Next up is "The Snow Storm", which the walk through says is the first truly difficult mission, so I'm probably never going to beat it :p

^ Well then just brake before the corner and take it at a slower speed.

Which is what I do with the faster cars because quick accelration but still the handbrake feature needs tweaking because we all want to do those fast turns we see in movies etc just because so dam fun

Also I don't like how cops will run into face on would never happen they should only hit you from side or behind but even then they wouldn't just smash up there car  Roadblocks/Stingers and police on bikes would be cool too.

Well on the third try of "Snow Storm" I escaped the hospital with my health intact... hopped into my waiting speedboat... and then couldn't get the character to activate the driving and was gunned down by the cop-copter. Sigh.

Oh and the walkthroughs talk about how a boat will be waiting or nearby... I spent 15 goddamn minutes swimming/walking around looking for a boat! I finally had to set up on a dock, wait for a boat to be driving by, and snipe the pilot 5 times until he died then swim out to take it. Jeez!

This game is an odd combination of sheer frustration and addiction :p

I agree though onlone play is so great with a friend :) I got the last mission weeks ago but 4 times I failed on the last chase and I mean the very end of it and stopped playing because of the sucking replay thing (WE NEED DAM CHECKPOINTS PLEASE). I will finish it before christmas probably and then write a review on gamespot am thinking 8.5 at moment.

My favorite mission was the bank robbery job. Pretty intense shootout, even if the cops were idiots. Although you can tell how scripted it was, because during the getaway if you ignore what you're being told to do, you can keep on going and end up avoiding the cops for the getaway.

If you're not good at shooting, do the auto lock-on thing. Of course, it's kinda cheap when it's too dark to see anyone but the lock-on knows where everyone is.

This is a really solid game. I really liked the driving mechanics, they feel very realistic, which I like. And once you get good at figuring out how to drive, you actually feel pretty untouchable because the other cars on the road are bound by the same inability to drive.

The missions are fun, the combat is fun, even if the game is a little linear.
