Well I assumed at first the cops were part of this mission. But when I ended up beating it, the cops NEVER got involved at all. There wasn't one to be found. To which I was thankful for, because it made the mission easy to complete.

Of course that brings up another one of my pet peeves about the missions in this game. If the cops aren't part of the mission, then why complicate matters by getting them involved in it?

^ That's simply part of the game. If you're in a high speed shootout and you happen to pass by cops or you hit a cop car, they'll come after you. Besides, that's what Kiki is for if you're pressed for time.

I think that's why they made it so easy to escape a 1 star... god knows I've been pissed off because I started a chase because I bumped into a cop car.
If you don't care about achievements, you could always just use the cheat? Or you could do the wanted level achievements first (lots of how to videos on youtube) then just use the wanted level cheats as much as you want.

Achievements aren't a consideration with the PS3 version and I have thought about using some cheats for certain things. I guess if I get stuck on a mission that I just can't beat, I'll use the cheats.

With the Bernie Crane boat mission, it wasn't so much the wanted level per se, as it was there was a shitload of cops plus the 3 bad guys all shooting at me. That was what pissing me off, especially after I discovered that the cops weren't a required part of the mission. I guess I feel that unless I run into a cop car, or unless the cops are an actual part of the mission, that the game ought to be programmed in such a way as to not to have to deal with the extra interference from cops.

Oh, even better then. You can use the cops to fight off the guys... just use the wanted level down cheat and the cops will forget about you and shoot at the guys with guns. :)

I ended up finally using a cheat code last night. It was on the mission where you're exchanging a hostage and end up with a BIG firefight with a lot of enemies and then when it's all said and done, you ended up with a 2 star wanted level. After several tries of getting through the firefight, I didn't feel like running from the cops, so I said the hell with it and used the "Remove Wanted Level" cheat.

^I'm not one to judge people for using cheat codes. If they weren't meant to be used then they shouldn't be left in the game. If someone has paid for a game then they deserve the same amount of fun no matter what their skill level.

That said, I didn't need to cheat on the story missions. There weren't any controller throwing moments of rage this time around.

Well as evidenced in this thread, I get a little fatigued at the long missions, or more precisely, having to replay them again, especially the long driving sequences. The first time I played this mission, I actually beat the firefight but I didn't really know what to do afterwards. I tried to climb down from a tower, and got killed by cops. The next several tries I kept doing something stupid and got killed before I ever got to that point, so when I finally got through it again, I knew I had to drive back to Packie's house, and I just didn't feel like running from the cops, thus the cheat code was employed.

^I didn't cheat on that mission simply because I find two stars relatively easy to ditch. It's all easy when you've survived for two and a half hours on six stars.

I probably could have ditched it the first time if I would have known which way to go to get off the walkways but I stupidly tried to go right down the tower on the ladder and I was a sitting duck and didn't have much health left anyway.

If I could have actually gotten to the car before the wanted level kicked in, I would have just run away, but as it was, I just didn't feel like dealing with it. I guess after numerous other cop chases, I just didn't see the point of another one.

EDIT TO ADD: I guess I'm not very good at ditching stars, 2 stars usually cause me a lot of trouble but I think it's primarily because I'm not a good driver. As I mentioned, I SUCK AT DRIVING in this game, so when evading the cops, I spend a lot of time bouncing off other cars.

^It is somewhat annoying that you can pick up wanted levels so easily, just by clipping a police car for instance.

Yeah I've done that a lot when I'm on a mission or driving to a mission when a F'ing cop car pulls in front of you or something. Usually one star I have no problem with, but it's still an annoyance.

I’ve beaten the game and most of the side missions but I spent well over an hour last night creating scenarios with the cops to see how far I could push my wanted level up and if I could get away.

I was messing around in the area of Steve’s garage.
In that area there are lots of hookers and armored cars (you may or may not know but if you blow up the armored cars you can pull down a cool 10 grand or so).

Anyhoo, you may notice that sometimes in the game you will get several of the same vehicles is the same area (dunno if it’s a flitch or what) but 3 armored cars pulled up while I was having fun with a hooker so I got out of the car and sent an RPG into the first armored car.
That caused a chain reaction and all three went up, there was money EVERYWHERE!!

Well when you blow up an armored car you get an instant wanted level (a 2 I think).
So I’m running around as fast as I can trying to pick up all the money without catching on fire, since there was fire everywhere and the cops show up.

Blam! Another RPG into the cop car (for some reason they really don’t like that) then here come the police helicopter and swat team.

2 more RPG’s later and they are really pissed!!! LOL

So off I run! I lasted about 5 min before my car was so riddled with bullets it pretty much just blew up in my face.

It’s so fun being BAD!!!

Brought the game last Tuesday and so far got too the 2nd island after losing my 1st safehouse and for most part I am enjoying the game though the driving could do with a little tweak and the distance drawback in the graphics is a little annoying.

If you've dated Kiki enough times until you score, she'll call you telling you that she can use her lawyer contacts to help get cops off your back. So if you've got a cop problem, call her (it'll be a new option on your cell phone under her name) and she'll take care of it. It doesn't work for major events (i.e. the bank robbery), and I think you're limited to one call a day, but I'm not sure.

If you've dated Kiki enough times until you score [...]
And this isn't a hard thing to do at all, with anyone except Kate. Take 'em out on one date, get their number at the end, take them out on a second date, get into their pants at the end.
